Hello, I was wondering if I can also move components from one project to the other, while keeping them linked? I'd like to take my components library out of my working file, to work together with other projects

Hello, I was wondering if I can also move components of my components page in project A to a dedicated new project, while keeping them linked?

Right now my component library lives in my project, but since it will be working with different projects as well, I like to have one project with only components, which serves the other projects… 🙂

Hi Celine,

Thanks again for the speedy reply! Due to all of the ticket links Moving the workflow files isn’t ideal - the BEST options is to only Move the Library to a new project!

Hey Paul,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! While you can’t move the library to another project, you can use it across projects and files in other teams. You just need to open the file you want to be able to access the library in, click on the ‘Libraries’ tab, and then switch over to ‘Your team’ or ‘Other teams’. You can add the library to the file from there (please see the screenshot below)

Hope this helps 🙂

Hi Celine,

I am seeing some mixed replies to the above question, about moving a Figma Libraries - Some people have said, if you move projects - but not teams the library will remain linked. However, your reply indicates the opposite - that a library cannot be moved.

To sum up my issue, the Design Library lives in the same project folder as most of the product workflows. In order to give the design team edit access to these workflows, I also unintentionally give them all Library publishing access. I think I only really have 2 options:

  1. I could make a new project for workflows, move everything except the Library.

  2. Use the “Move component” feature… but this would be VERY time consuming as the design system is very comprehensive.

Hoping someone can give me clarity! And help me retake control of publishing access!

Hi there! Apologies for any confusion here. I confirm that if you move projects (but not teams) the library will remain linked.

I’ve tested this on my end, and based on the latest behaviour, for your situation, the most efficient option would be the first one you mention! (Create a new project for workflows and move everything except the library.) Hope this clears things up! 🙏
