Hi there,

I having trouble understanding why “Clip content” changes the look of drop-shadows (unclipping generally darkens the shadow). Here’s a screenshot of the same simple frame with the same drop shadow applied. Left is clipped, right is unclipped.

Any ideas why that is? I kinda need to have the same shadow on clipped and unclipped components in my design system.

Thanks!

Spread property of the shadow doesn’t work when Clip Content is disabled.

Thank you, I didn’t know that. Two conditions then apply to have a shadow spread:

  • Clip Content must be enabled

  • The Frame bearing the shadow must have a non-transparent fill (it can be a Fill with 0,001% opacity which Figma displays as 0%)

Thanks again!

I found that the SPREAD only became active for me when I added a background color to the shape I wanted to add the spread to. Also, the parent shape of the one you want to add the spread to has to have the Clip Content enabled.
