Question

Free access to figma education

Manager_Progress

Good afternoon!

We are an English language school. About a year ago, we created a Figjam account and verified ourselves as an educational institution. All of our students did the same - they registered and were verified. In October, our students started receiving emails warning them that the free access would soon end, but they had the opportunity to re-verify, and thus continued to use the service. Currently, one of our students has received a letter warning that his free access will end in 2 weeks and that he will not be able to re-verify.

What should we do to extend this student's access? What should we do to ensure that our other students do not face this problem?

As far as I remember, access to free use in the Figjam Education plan was supposed to be provided for 2 years, so we expected that we and our students would not have to pay anything for at least another year. Have the conditions changed?

Hey @Manager_Progress , thanks for reaching out to the community!
If your student received an email saying their Education team account has 2 weeks left, they can click the form link included in that email to re-verify their student status. Here’s the form: https://www.figma.com/education/apply

Once their status is verified, they’ll be able to either create a new Education team or upgrade an existing team to the Education plan. This gives access to our Professional features for free and allows them to collaborate with other Education users on their team. You can find step-by-step instructions in this article: Verify your status for a free Education team.

Just to confirm, Figma’s Education plan is valid for 2 years. If your student’s application is declined or their Education status is revoked, they can reach out to our team directly at education@figma.com for further assistance.

Hope this helps!

Unfortunately, the link you sent is not working. I mean the student sees the message I sent above.
Could you clarify if there is a way to resolve the situation without our students directly contacting you? Can we write to you ourselves and what information will be needed?
As a school, we are responsible for the work of the boards, so it is not very comfortable to involve students in solving technical issues

Thanks for your message, and I completely understand your concern.

Just to clarify: if the students were approved for 2 years, they should not be receiving these notifications. However, please note that student verification is handled individually, not at the Organisation level—so the status can differ from one student to another.

Due to PII (Personally Identifiable Information) restrictions, we're not able to access or discuss specific student data here in the Forum. For this reason, we recommend that the student contact us directly so we can look into their case securely.

That said, by contacting directly the support team, the school (you) can email us on behalf of the students, but in that case, you’ll need to:

  • Include the student's email address in the request, and
  • CC the team owner (the person who owns the student’s account/team) and have them explicitly approve the request

Let me know if you have any further questions!
