Saving multiple files from plugin

I’ve created a plug-in that does some simple processing of the svg content of a selected group or frame and svae to disc, the results work well. The problem I’d like to resolve is to be able to allow selection of multiple items and save them as multiple files. The output file format is currently svg but I’d like to be able to include other file formats as well.
