File thumbnails consistency in Figma teams

Figma thumbnails are being cropped differently depending on your resolution or the view you are in… Why?
The ratio varies wildly from 16:9 (Project view), kind-of 4:3 (Team view) to 1:1 ( for list view and pinned files). It is therefore almost impossible to have a thumbnail with readable text as they will most likely seen cropped, unless you fit it within a square.
Any chance we will get some improvements on that aspect soon?

So if you had something like: “Create Thumbnail” > makes an artboard that will fit with your different safe areas and THEN we design it that’d be better than “Set as thumbnail” because that doesn’t create any safe zones such as you may run into with video where we could make them as useful as possible.

Yes, I would like to know why anyone thought having 3 different ratios was a good idea for thumbnails? There also seems to be a new version that is putting a border around them. Anyone have any updates on this?

thanks

The border shows if you didn’t use the ‘Set as thumbnail’ function on any frame.

Thanks Margot,

built the frame into the component- thinking it would take it.
