Variable backed styles are buggy?

In order to migrate to variables, we need to first back our color styles with variables so our org can take advantage of color themes more easily.

The legwork is done, but when the mode (theme) is changed, many of the color styles on the page/frame are ‘lazy’ and don’t update unless the frame is moved around. It smells strongly like a bug.

Not much progress/clarification with Figma support so far, anyone experiencing this? Sitting on the branch looking for solutions but not finding any.

+1 We are experiencing the same bug and it’s very frustrating. Also ‘Selection colors’ still shows colors represented as styles though when you view the actual property it is showing the proper variable. This requires us to manually detach these ‘ghost’ styles so that the variable works correctly. Hope we can get a quick fix for this

Hey, sorry to hear this is happening! This definitely seems like a bug. Please reach out to the support team directly via this form for help: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Be sure to use your Figma account email, include the links to the file, and share it with support-share@figma.com so they can take a closer look.

I had the same problem, My suggestion is to select every component one by one and check that you have only attached the local variables, using the variables panel for the one you have selected. Once you finish and double-check that there is not other references, you NEED TO CLOSE Figma to refresh, then old variables should go forever
