We maintain a living design system that our customers, outside of our Figma organization, use in their projects. When we release a new version of the design system, our customers must use the Swap library feature to update their projects with the latest version.
The issue is that the property setup on component instances used in projects is often reset to default values after the swap. This occurs on components where we added or removed, a property, or if a variant was removed or added. Ideally, this should not affect the untouched properties, but it does. Figma has been notified of this problem, and they have stated that it is a product limitation, which appears to be a bug.
We are open to any suggestions on how to optimise our workflow and the distribution of the design system.
