Question

Please help me create this basic design

Andreas22

Hey people,

I’m an email marketer doing design on Figma for a few months, and there are still some simple design techniques that I haven’t been able to learn, particularly because I just don’t know what to search for on Google/YouTube.

I’ve attached a design of a wine bottle, but the element is half inside a shape, and half out. Can someone give me a quick step-by-step (or better, a Loom) on how to do this please? I’m assuming it isn’t that difficult, I’m just still learning.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for communities/forums/subreddits/YT channels that discuss and showcase Figma designs? Particularly for brand emails, landing pages, and/or product ads.

Thanks so much!

Andreas

Hi @Andreas22, Thanks for reaching out us about this and shring the image! It helps a lot.

I hope experienced designer in our community kindly provide in depth instructions for this, meanwhile you might be able to achieve this using Masks. (If you prefer video: Figma tutorial: Masks)

While they may not directly align with your objective, I came across a few files from our community that could potentially offer some valuable insights:

I couldn’t find any particular showcase to recommend to you, but you are welcome to browse and discover our community on your own. For instance, you can check out this link for landing pages design files in our community here.

Moreover, if you are interested in learning about Design features, I would suggest checking out Tutorials: Explore design features in Figma from Figma Youtube channel.

I hope this will be of some assistance. If anyone in our community has any suggestions or recommendation, please feel free to share them here.

Thank you once again for reaching out!

Hi @Andreas22 ,

This might not be the best method, but it works:

  1. Create a main frame for your background.
  2. Create another frame for your shape and apply a fill to it.
  3. Round the corners of that second frame using the custom corner radius button.
  4. Insert your bottle PNG image as a child of Frame 2.
  5. Copy the same PNG image and place it outside of Frame 2.
  6. Select the second image, hold the Command key, and drag the bottom line to the top to reduce the size of the image.

Design file

Hope this helps!

Thanks Valdas! I’ve managed to do it following this.

Curious — is the main frame for the background so that the PNG image doesn’t fall into Frame 2?

Valdas_Staskevicius

@Andreas22, I’m not entirely sure if I understand your question. Are you asking about the purpose of using the first frame?

Yes exactly!

Valdas_Staskevicius

@Andreas22 In that case, yes, the purpose of the first frame is to serve as a light reddish-brown background color. In general, it acts as a container where you can store all your elements. In this case, there are two different shapes with images. If you don’t need a background and only want to keep the two shapes, simply remove the fill for Frame 1.

Last Q, did how make the circle a frame? (see attached)

When I create an Eclipse > Select it > Select “Frame Selection” I’m not able to drop other PNG images in there. It only works when I create a frame through the navigation bar, and it only comes out rectangular that way.

Thanks!

Andreas

Valdas_Staskevicius

@Andreas22 You can change the corner radius for the rectangle shape to make it look like a circle.

Ah, I was wondering to see if that was the only way. Thanks!
