Managing memory erros in a file with large PNGs

I understand Figma has a 2GB limit. I have a project with multiple large PNGs, just the nature of the project, that are made for print.

There are not many components or layers in this project, compared to most, yet a simple 8-10 large PNGs are causing memory errors and causing Figma to through the memory error screen on a very regular basis whenever I edit anything in the component that modifies the overlays on those 8-10 PNGs.

Any suggestions for how to deal with large PNGs and their requisite pull on memory in Figma?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. There’re several things you can do to reduce memory usage. Can you try the troubleshooting listed in this article?

If the issue still persists, could you submit a bug report detailing the steps that led to this issue? You can do so by following the link: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041468234-Submit-a-bug-report

I hope this helps.

Well yes. I looked at the help and went through the steps before posting for extra help.

  • There are essentially no hidden layers
  • I have taken several pages and split them into two files

The page that keeps breaking is just a single component, with 8 larger images (see attached). I cannot compress the images a ton as they are meant for print so will get artifacts, and they arent THAT big - like 3-5 MB each. They are PNGs if that matters.

The component is maybe 25-35 elements with a few layers, doesn’t “feel” crazy?

Thanks for sending the screenshots. Yeah, it doesn’t look that big to me either.
