LAUNCHED: UI3 - Make Clip Content a checkbox again

In UI3 the clip content function is now a dropdown rather than a checkbox. Seems like an unnecessary extra click that is hidden in a dropdown rather than a simple checkbox toggle. Wondering why this was changed

Totally agree. If there isn’t a third option to choose from, it should be presented as a checkbox rather than a dropdown menu.

I think they try to hide something “uncommon to use” but not this thing

I was really surprised to see this. Why send a choice of two options to a dropdown? This is weird and increases the time it takes to select “clip content”

Hey All, thanks for the feedback!

We’ll pass this onto the team for consideration.

The container clips the excess content, which used to be a checkbox. Now there are no more than 2 options here, but the menu is used. When setting each time, you need to click multiple times. Is it better to use the checkbox?

When searching for components, I currently find a better entry is this AI entry (ctrl +/), but it is still not very convenient. In the past, you could search for components directly in one step. Now you have to switch to assets to search for components, which will be inconvenient for people who use components a lot in their projects. If you use the assets in the left panel, you can’t display layer information again. Hope to be optimized.

Hey,

Since the new Figma UI, I hate the dropdown for the functionality show/clip content. It’s one option, should be a checkbox or switch. This is a UX fail, 1 extra click. It’s frustrating.

Hey All, thanks for your continued feedback and votes!

This is officially on the UI3 team’s roadmap for improvement - stay tuned!

For existing UI2 users, it was really unclear where the “clip content” option had gone, because people will “scan-read” for “clip” but the default (checkbox off in UI2) is now “Show content”.

“Show content” is also a bad descriptor of the feature/setting.
It always shows the content, it may just clip some of it to the bounding box of that layer if you change it to clip. The opposite of Show is Hide, not Clip.

Exactly, this should be change.

@dvaliao I have one question, why? this change makes absolutely no sense. Why are you changing things that worked well?

Adding my two cents here: I use this button regularly and now it’s not only less visible but also I need one click more to change it. Maybe leave it as a checkbox (and tune it down visually if this was the reason to change it) or use a segmented button (like text-layer dimensions), so I only need one click.
Appreciate the team already having it on their roadmap for improvement!

Hey All, thanks again for your feedback!

The UI3 team has officially updated the Clip Content control from a dropdown back to a checkbox. :rocket:
