Issue with Subscription Billing for 5 Seats

Hi Figma Community,

I hope everyone is doing well. I’m reaching out here because I’m facing a frustrating issue with my Figma subscription and I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.

Recently, I was surprised to find that my Figma account was charged for 5 seats, even though I only need and use one seat for my work. I’m more than willing to pay for the excellent service Figma provides, but being forced to pay for additional seats that I don’t need feels unfair and unnecessary.

I’ve contacted Figma Support to try and resolve this, but I wanted to bring this issue up in the community as well. Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, how did you manage to fix it? Any tips on how to prevent this from happening in the future would also be greatly appreciated.

I really enjoy using Figma and want to continue supporting the platform, but I hope there’s a solution that doesn’t involve overpaying for services I don’t need.

Thanks in advance for your insights and suggestions!

Hey @Reza_Risnaldi, I understand why it’s annoying. This usually happens because there are added seats outside the original annual agreement.

I’ve seen you’ve already contacted our support team (Ticket no. #1095345), they’ll be in touch with you soon to help correcting seat numbers and charges.

If you add new paid seats to your team during an annual subscription, Figma will charge you a separate monthly subscription for those seats.

So additional editors invited to a file will be counted toward the monthly invoice and charged after they start interacting with a Figma Design file or edit a FigJam file. This also applies to teams on annual plans once the amount of editors exceeds the amount of annual seats on the subscription.

Figma only checks the number of editors on the monthly billing date, which means you would not be billed for extra editors if you downgrade them before your billing date.

You can check who is billed from the “Members” tab of your team page. Set the “Design role” or “FigJam role” filter to “Editors” or “All” to see billed users. From there you can downgrade any editor to “Viewer - restricted” on the Design or FigJam to remove that user from billing.

Here’s a guide from our Help Center with more information on this: Manage team permissions

I’d recommend to set up email notification to get notified when people upgrade to a paid seat.

Let me know if you have any further question, happy to help out!

Hi @Gayani_S ,

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I understand now how the additional charges occurred. I’ve already downgraded the unnecessary seats and reached out to support to correct the billing. I’ll keep an eye on the Members tab and adjust roles before the billing date to avoid this in the future.

Appreciate the help and the resources you provided!

Best,
Reza
