Question

Is it possible to smart animate variable fonts?

Sophie15

I thought the introduction of variable fonts would allow for smart animation between the variables - has anyone managed this?

You can find many examples on the web of text animation in CSS using variable fonts. E.g., 8 Fantastic Examples of Variable Fonts in Action (speckyboy.com).

Same here. I tried converting the font to vector and nothing. Also, I tried importing it in vector form from other software like Illustrator, same result. I think this feature isn’t implemented yet.

Just tried this out and was disappointed to see that variable font’s don’t smart animate between weights. That’s one of the major draws of the variables is to watch them smoothly transition between weights and widths and other coooooool things

I was just wondering the same thing. No auto animate between variable font widths or along other variable font axes? It’s so fun to play with the variable font sliders and watch them go from thin to thick. It would be awesome to add this kind of an animation into a prototype or export it as a Lottie Animation. How do I upvote this idea??
