Has anyone else noticed the bug where duplicating files doesn’t copy over the variable modes? I’ve set up desktop and mobile modes with tokens, but when I duplicate the file, the modes in components and parent frames disappear, forcing me to add them manually everywhere.
Our team is having trouble reproducing this bug. Are you able to share a link to your file here, so we can take a closer look at what may be causing this?
Please also share edit access with support-share@figma.com. This won’t affect your billing. It’s just to allow our team to take a look on the backend.
After conducting some debugging within our agency, we’ve determined that the issue lies not with Figma itself, but with a plugin called Variables Pro. This plugin has become necessary for us due to Figma lacking native variable swapping functionality within its library swap feature.
It’s unfortunate that we find ourselves reliant on third-party applications to enable token functionality for agencies. To ensure profitability and efficiency, we typically rely on a template structure for our projects, comprising project files, component files, and token files. Building a design system from scratch for each project is simply impractical.
I am currently in communication with the plugin providers, but the absence of native support for tokens/variables within Figma remains a significant gap.
Do you happen to have any insights into when native support for this functionality might be available?
Native variable support is already on our radar, but we don’t have a specific timeline to provide yet. Feel free to keep an eye on our future release notes!
