Question

Command-D not working for elements within component?

Darren_Strange

Hello everyone.

I have a shared design system for my team to use. When they add a component from the shared design system to their project, the ability to duplicate an item (command-D) within that component doesn’t seem to work. Is this normal?

For example, I have a list of bullet points with a tick icon. Each text box and icon is grouped together, and I’m using auto layout to distribute them vertically. To add a new bullet point to list, I was using command-D to do this. But once it’s brought into a new project, command-d stops working and I can’t add a new bullet point.

Have I potentially set up the component wrong?

Any help most appreciated. 🙂

It is normal. You can’t add or delete anything in component instance, only in main component.

You can add the some amount of bullet points in main component and hide/unhide it in instances in need.

Ah okay. Thank you for you reply.

Not too much of a problem - if I ‘detach instance’, then it works. I presume there is no real harm in doing that first.

You will lost the connection to main component if you detach it, but if you don’t need it, it’s ok
