Can Figma links in Slack directly open in the desktop app?

I use the desktop app–my team and I post Figma links in Slack. I would like to be able to open them directly in the desktop app, but I can’t. Direct as in not going through a browser first. I have Bumpr (link opener utility), but I can’t designate Figma as a “browser”.

Current flow:

  1. I click the link in Slack
  2. “Opening this in desktop app” page opens in Chrome
  3. File opens in desktop app

I would like to get rid of #2. It feels super clunky, leads to #3 not always showing me the correct page/screen, and leaves a tab in Chrome that other than reloading to fix a step #3 failure, has no long-term purpose.

Does the Slack plugin allow #2 to be skipped? I can’t test this because I’m not the Slack admin.

Hey @Zach_Pennington, thank you for reaching out! This is a great feedback, I can pass this along to the teams, I also think it’s a bit confusing when a Chrome tab opens before the link opens in the desktop app.
I came across this feature request where the user asked for the functionality to paste the links directly in the desktop app, if you want to take a look at this post.

Could you let me know which slack plugin you are referring to?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks!

This is the Slack plugin I’m talking about: Figma and FigJam | Slack App Directory

Thanks @Zach_Pennington for the confirmation.

I’ve tested this myself and it’s directing me first to chrome and seconds later is the desktop app opening up. I’ll forward your feedback to the teams internally!

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you,
Gayani

I have same issue, any updates here?

Hey @Thomas28, thanks for reaching out about this! At the moment, this is the expected behavior, and Figma links will open in the browser first and then switch to the desktop app rather than directly in the desktop app. I completely understand how this could be inconvenient.

I’d encourage you to share your thoughts and upvote this feature request here: Paste link in the desktop app rather than going to the browser.

This helps the team see how many users are looking for this functionality, and it could influence future updates!
