A small change in the library changes the entire component and overrides all changes in the design page

when I change a property on a component in the DS and then I update the DS on a specific file, that same component will reset all the overrides
for example: the names of a buttons, or the number of buttons… I have 5 in the DS but use only 3 in the design…
why does this happen?

Hmm… that is definitely odd and not expected behavior.

Again, it’s hard to be sure why this happening without seeing your file. Your best bet will be reaching out to the support team directly via this form for help: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Be sure to use your Figma account email, include a screen recording and/or a link to the file, and share it with support-share@figma.com, so they can take a closer look.

Hey @Einav_Levy, thank you for reaching out!

It’s hard to be sure what’s happening without seeing your file. Can you please share a file link, so we can take a closer look?

Unfortunately I can’t, I will try to explain the problem more clearly @dvaliao
I use a library file (design system), where I have all my “masters” and in the design files themselves I actually have all the design and all the changes I make on each component, change of color, text, number of buttons…
Sometimes when I make one change in the master (changed the color or the padding for example), and update the files accordingly, the components I used return to look like the master, before all the changes.
Example - the name of the button changes back to master… if the name of the button was “end” now it will be “button” because this is the text we have in master

Thanks for the additional context!

This is actually expected behavior when you make changes to a master component.

Master components are the original versions of components from which instances are created. They serve as the source of truth for all instances, so any changes made to the master component will automatically update its instances, to ensure consistency across designs.

Instead, you’ll want to create/use instances of your main components to use in your design then apply overrides to your instances. More info here:

that’s what I do, I apply overrides, but when I update the main library, sometimes it’s reset all in the design
