There’s the ability to select ever-deeper child components by clicking enter to go down each level.

I propose that when a user is in Prototype mode, this behavior should select all the prototype connections. This would allow you to make a large selection and change all the shared parameters of the prototype connections (for example, changing the ms duration of all smart animates)
