Thanks for advising! I start to use Figurative for edit on the go and it works great, I miss only an important think: Zoom with cmd and mouse wheel. I prefer mouse and keyboard for design
I wish I could use Figma on my iPad pro. i wouldn’t mind having to use Bluetooth keyboard and mouse
Hi Figma Team,
I’m a designer who frequently uses Figma on my iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard. While the browser version of Figma works, it’s not fully optimized for iPadOS, especially when using the trackpad for zooming or panning. This often causes the entire page (including sidebars) to zoom, rather than just the canvas.
Having a native iPad app would not only provide a smoother and more intuitive experience but also leverage the unique capabilities of the iPad, like touch gestures, Apple Pencil, and the Magic Keyboard. It would be a game-changer for designers who prefer working on the go or those who have integrated iPads into their workflows.
Is there any plan to develop a native app for iPad in the near future? I’m sure many in the community would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you for considering this request.
For the sake of more context and to bump this thread I’ll provide my awkwardly half-iPad work situation and how I currently integrate Figma.
I’m freelancing for IKEA’s home design platform team. It’s an awesome interactive web app and I commonly use Figma to prototype and brainstorm for it.
For any other design project I would be using Affinity Designer on my iPad but Figma’s component-based workflows and designer-to-dev flow is superior. So my flow ends up being an uncomfortable hybrid between a computer and my iPad. I sometimes try and go work at a coffee shop or remote office with just the iPad and sometimes it works okay.
Here are some of my workarounds:
- Figurative (depreciated).
- Screens app. I leave my Mac at home with a solid internet connection and remote myself in through Screens. Then I use Figma remotely. In this situation the entire iPad screen works like a trackpad which actually works very well.
- Miro 😒
- Do the visual work in Affinity Designer and then paste as an image into Figma later. AD also supports custom fonts which is crucial for my work.
- Save the Figma site to the Home Screen as an app. This saves a few pixels of screen real-estate from the browser frame.
- Use the Apple Pencil to make selections because it’s slightly more accurate.
- Use the new Virtual Trackpad accessibility feature on iPad, although it’s extremely clunky.
- Keep my phone next to me and use Bluetouch to make it function as a mouse and use common keyboard shortcuts.
The moment I start using the iPad for design it hurts to go back to a computer, even if the keyboard is better. The touch experience when creating visual media just feels way better. I hope Figma embraces this experience soon.
