Thanks for advising! I start to use Figurative for edit on the go and it works great, I miss only an important think: Zoom with cmd and mouse wheel. I prefer mouse and keyboard for design

I wish I could use Figma on my iPad pro. i wouldn’t mind having to use Bluetooth keyboard and mouse

Hi Figma Team,

I’m a designer who frequently uses Figma on my iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard. While the browser version of Figma works, it’s not fully optimized for iPadOS, especially when using the trackpad for zooming or panning. This often causes the entire page (including sidebars) to zoom, rather than just the canvas.

Having a native iPad app would not only provide a smoother and more intuitive experience but also leverage the unique capabilities of the iPad, like touch gestures, Apple Pencil, and the Magic Keyboard. It would be a game-changer for designers who prefer working on the go or those who have integrated iPads into their workflows.

Is there any plan to develop a native app for iPad in the near future? I’m sure many in the community would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you for considering this request.

For the sake of more context and to bump this thread I’ll provide my awkwardly half-iPad work situation and how I currently integrate Figma.

I’m freelancing for IKEA’s home design platform team. It’s an awesome interactive web app and I commonly use Figma to prototype and brainstorm for it.

For any other design project I would be using Affinity Designer on my iPad but Figma’s component-based workflows and designer-to-dev flow is superior. So my flow ends up being an uncomfortable hybrid between a computer and my iPad. I sometimes try and go work at a coffee shop or remote office with just the iPad and sometimes it works okay.

Here are some of my workarounds:

  • Figurative (depreciated).
  • Screens app. I leave my Mac at home with a solid internet connection and remote myself in through Screens. Then I use Figma remotely. In this situation the entire iPad screen works like a trackpad which actually works very well.
  • Miro 😒
  • Do the visual work in Affinity Designer and then paste as an image into Figma later. AD also supports custom fonts which is crucial for my work.
  • Save the Figma site to the Home Screen as an app. This saves a few pixels of screen real-estate from the browser frame.
  • Use the Apple Pencil to make selections because it’s slightly more accurate.
  • Use the new Virtual Trackpad accessibility feature on iPad, although it’s extremely clunky.
  • Keep my phone next to me and use Bluetouch to make it function as a mouse and use common keyboard shortcuts.

The moment I start using the iPad for design it hurts to go back to a computer, even if the keyboard is better. The touch experience when creating visual media just feels way better. I hope Figma embraces this experience soon.

While we wait for a fully featured iPad app, please please consider letting the Figma Safari use installed iPad fonts + enable zooming with the Magic Keyboard trackpad…

It would really enable us to at least use Figma on iPad in the meantime…

Hi Guys! Do you have any updates? Is Figma planning to make an iPad app or even try to make something like a font helper for iPads in the future? Figma online does not connect to my local fonts, even though I found the option to add some

I just wanted to share my experience with Figma on the iPad!

I’ve made some topics before (from my agency’s e-mail account) about what i would love to see for an iPad version. These posts where made before I actually got an iPad, and now after using an iPad for some time, I have some new insights on the experience. For some context, I use an 11 inch iPad Pro m4 pared with a bluetooth keyboard.

So unfortunately I got the iPad around the time when Figurative canceled the project, which made me turn to the Safari version. The first thing I got annoyed with, was the safari search bar and UI. But by a coincidence I got it to work just like an iPad app, by saving the Figma dashboard as a link on my iPads Home Screen. What this opened up to was first that I now have a dedicated Figma button on my Home Screen just like the other iPad apps. And the second benefit was that this version excludes the safari search bar and only includes the most necessary UI (ex the forward and backward buttons).

I still thought that the UI was too big so i switched the iPads rendering size to be the setting ”more space” which definitely helped with the usable area.

Using Figma through the Safari browser without a mouse and only by touch is actually pretty nice. You navigate just like you would do with a touchpad, with the only difference that a singe finger is automatically as if you would press and drag on the trackpad. To zoom in and out you just pinch with two fingers, and to navigate around the page you swipe/drag around with two fingers. The only problem is that the app sometimes don’t recognize that I use two fingers and that leads to accidental edits that I have to undo. To right click you just press and hold the space you want to right click and then when you release the finger the right click window pops up. I’ve tried using the pencil as well, but that is just annoying and inconvenient unfortunately.

One thing that is a must if you want to use Figma on iPad is to use a keyboard. This opens up the possibility to use commands like undo, redo, group and so on. Without this it would be almost impossible to do any type of edits. But when you get the hang och dragging around with one hand on the iPads screen and one on the keyboard to do commands, then it is a really nice experience actually.

My conclusion is that it does work pretty good. It still needs to get some performance updates to run smoother, and for the future it would be really nice to get an actual app with touch gestures to do the most important commands without a keyboard (like the double tap feature to undo). I also miss the pencil support that Figurative had, and that would be amazing to get in a future app, and the ability to be able to right click with the new squeeze feature on the pencil pro would be nice! I would also love to be able to open up multiple widows, but that could be a limitation of me using the version that I saved to my home screen
