Suggest a Feature

At the moment, you can multiselect variables and batch-apply the scoping to them. However, every time a new variable is created after that, we have to remember to manually apply the scoping to those. It woudl be great if we could just decide at the group level “everything in this bucket should be used for border only”. Additionally, it would be nice to attach a description to the group. We are using the term “foreground” as a catch-all for text and icon variables. But those who are not used to it are continuing to search for “text” as a variable name (and finding nothing).

I annotate designs in Figma extensively for developer handoff (behaviors, interactivity, important callouts, etc). Right now, it’s frustrating that annotations are treated as design elements (get sucked into a frame, cant cross multiple frames easily.) I also typically duplicate all screens to show one set with annotations, and one “clean” set that represents the actual look of the interface. I propose an “annotation layer” that can be toggled on and off quickly, where drawn elements are not bound by frames but can freely be superimposed on any design. Comments accomplishes some of this, but I need to draw arrows and other visual elements when comments aren’t adequate. This would also allow me to use a single set of screens for annotated and “clean” designs

Hello, I know that we can right click on a tab and then select “Reload” from the menu, but it would be much easier if there would be a keyboard shortcut, especially while using a Keyboard and/or Mouse that have app-specific configuration for certain buttons (e.g. Logitech Master MX where I could set button 3 - press on the scroll wheel - to Reload the Figma tab). It would probably be a good idea to include the “Reload” somewhere in the menu or as a button somewhere in the UI. Thanks in advance!

We love using Figma for user testing, however it poses privacy risks. In the past, I once observed someone logging back into the prototype and taking screenshots with their phone after the test ended. We use Lookback and prepare a Figma prototype link to share ahead of time for each participant so we’re not scrambling beforehand. We prefer this so that we don’t force our participants to sign up for a Figma account, which would seem unnecessary and would put people off. I found a plugin called Crypto, but it only creates one password that can’t be changed, even when deleted and re-adding to the prototype. We’d love to have some sort of password option we could change between participants for the public link.

Is it possible to bump up the contrast on the variable token chips when they appear in the fields. They have a very light background and border around them and are near impossible to identify them in the UI when you have dark mode enabled. I understand that the icon buttons have an active state which is very similar if not the same as the hover state background colour, but when you have variables set, in dark mode you can’t really see them clearly in dark mode, and if you have low brightness on you monitor it makes it worse. Could you bump up the background or the icon button border or maybe use a different colour for the variable token chips when they are shown in the UI maybe?

Have the variables drop down shown when free typing into any of the spacing fields. At the moment you have to select the variables icon on hover to access the available variables, but it would be quicker to have those suggestion shown as well you a user clicks any field and starts typing a value to be also be able to see the variables drop down shown to pick from. For instance I might know I needs a sml or 16px spacing value, it’s quicker to activate the field and start typing because the field is a larger hit area then the small icon button to access the variables. It’s also faster from a tabbing perspective to be able to activate a field, type some values to see what variables I have available and then select the one I want. Would even be awesome if I have a value in a field that is exactly the same as an available variable, that it would let me quickly attach and detach the variable the same way you can attach or break a style to an element.

I’ve seen this bug be a thorn in many people’s side for the last 3 years and nothing seems to have been done about it. When prototyping and viewing said prototype, there appears to be no definitive way to get the screens to display in the correct order. If I’m presenting a visual to a client, I need a way to cycle back and forth between screens with ease. My only options at the moment seem to be restarting the prototype or creating hotspots in my design to cycle back to the previous slide. I would heavily suggest that the best and most intuitive way around this bugbear is to have pagination defined by layer order. Allowing the layer panel to be visible in presentation mode, along with a way to jump to a specified screen would save many of us time and reduced mental anguish. Has anyone ever found a plugin that fixes this problem, or at least makes it a less frustrating experience?

I use Figma in read-only mode. When a link appears in the text, it cannot be opened in a new tab. I’ve tried CTRL + click, clicking with the mouse wheel, and searching the context menu for an option. The only way to open a URL without leaving the current tab is to copy the link via the context menu. Perhaps there’s an alternative method to enhance this behavior, such as allowing the user to easily navigate back to the node containing the link.

MAIN PROBLEM: It is difficult for non-designers outside of a Figma ‘team’ to easily browse all the design files within a project to eg. find something specific. SOLUTION: Allow users outside of a Figma ‘team’ to have view-only access the project without having to pay for a seat. If they can have view-only access to the files within the project, surely this is beneficial? THE CURRENT PAIN POINTS: I’m always providing colleagues (non designer or dev) with different urls for different Figma files. My colleagues are not aware of how many files are in the project My colleagues (non designer or dev) do not realise they can navigate pages within a Figma file (even when signposted) so I regularly have to send URLs of each different page when neccesary. I would happily spread these pages out amongst different Figma files IF they could access a project with view-only permissions. Hey, Some of my files have a lot of pages and I know that I put something in one of these pages a long time ago and now I can’t find it again 🙈 I would like to search for text, layers, components, colors, instances etc. in all created Figma files. I have been able to find a plugin for this so far Thanks a lot

I’ve started playing with Apple Vision Pro and am in the process of designing an app for visionOS. Having the Apple visionOS design system is great, but I’m dying to view my prototype like a native application in visionOS. I’m wondering if there are plans for a Figma Mirror app for visionOS. The simplest version I could think of would be an instance of the prototype in a visionOS window where the prototype has a transparent background. Next step from there would be reading ‘hover’ triggers as eyes focusing on those UI elements, or perhaps introducing a new device-specific trigger. Currently I’m using Figma to create my ‘flat’ that goes through all of the interactions, but it doesn’t feel like a real app in AVP. We’re using Spline and exploring other tools to view windows and volumes in space, but they lack the interactivity and statefulness that Figma offers. Thank you for your consideration 🙏

Resizing the actions pop window would be helpful to see values at a glance. The ability to copy, cut, edit and past as text would be awesome. My prototype variables are sometimes extensive.

Bear with me for a second. Imagine a world where your text object switches from Desktop/H1 to Mobile/H1 automatically by moving it from your Desktop frame to a Mobile frame. Sounds good doesn’t it… No more switching manually… No more forgetting to switch a text object… Quality assured without having to think of second guessing. I dream of that world every night.

I’m kind of surprised there are only two sharing options for FigJam: View and Full Editing. I’m working with 6th graders–it would be great if they could have the ability to add content, but not delete anything they didn’t create. One student just deleted an entire workspace by accident, and version history hadn’t captured it yet.

When setting a file thumbnail allow set some elements to auto-update Updated date We usually place this info on the cover but have to update it manually every time we update the file (maybe status, collaborators too) But let override manually (give some flexibility)

It would be a game changer if child-elements could stack from horizontally to vertically when you change the width of the parent element. I want to create a parent-container that allows me to change it’s width but have the child-elements act kinda like inline elements (like text) and cascade vertically-downwards (like text) when the parent-element width changes to a lower width than the sum of the containing child-elements. See image (attached). Seems like this should be really simple to do in a future update. It would supercharge the application in terms of being able to create responsiveness components and screens without having to create different screens for each screen width. Perhaps it could appear in the Auto layout section like so:

As a user, I’d like to change the default tab presented on the component update request. Currently, (for performance and bandwidth reasons) the default tab is “Current Page”. This could be useful for some controls. However, my workflow requires all components to be systematically updated. If I forget to change the tab to “All pages”, I end up with inconsistencies in my prototyped users journeys. Give us the opportunity to choose the generic method we want. Thank you

Browsers allow you to control a major branding element – the colour of the browser status bar. You can match this to your brand and it has a significant impact on the look of your brand. Figma is a website design tool but does not give you control of this. On the web, this is controlled simply by adding the color of your choice to your tag: <meta name="theme-color" content="#000000"> Right now, Figma always sets this to black (ex on: https://www.figma.com/mirror). Upvote so we can see a true preview of how our mobile sites can look! Would be very easy to add.

Hi! I spent quite some time until I realized what it was happening. We got a request to support iPhone SE (3rd generation), but when I selected the frame size in Figma called iPhone SE I got a screen way smaller than what I was expecting (320x568). After some research I realized that I needed to select iPhone 8 since it has the same size as the iPhone SE (3rd gen) (375x667). A nice to have here would be to add the generation close to the name iPhone SE. Thanks!

Greetings. I was surprised that there’s no option to retrieve an element name (name you set in Layers panel) within a Text property. I have an input with its label (on the left) that I put in a component. As you can see, the component is called “Inputs Set”. And I was trying to put that component name in my “label” text element so that it would have “Inputs Set” value. When I searched online I found dynamic values that I thought could be used (like instance.mainComponent.parent or instanceVariant.mainComponent.parent.name) but that’s obviously not how it works: By doing that, my aim was to retrieve the name of an instance and put its value in a Text element - here “Label” Text element. So that Form ID instance’s label Text would have “Form ID” instead of “Label”; “Requester” instead of “Label” etc… Could you help please? Thank you.

We are working with another creative agency and they send some design audits. These are screenshots with added comments. The file they sent is read only. We would like to add all the comments to our amends tracker. Unfortunately, there is no way to get the comments out of the file in bulk as plugins are not allowed, copying the file does not copy the comments and Figma does not offer any comment export natively. The comment feature in Figma is ok, but would be infinitely more useful if comments could be exported from read only files as well.

Love the new variable capability with Figma, but think there should be some toggling of use cases for different users. As a small web user, as opposed to a large-scale product, I still would love to still use styles for my colors instead of variables. It would be nice to set this “toggle” at a team level to “never use variables for colors” instead of having to manually change that tab every single color I save. Please add some customization for variable settings.

I have been facilitating different workshops and sometimes it is required that all sticky notes are anonymous so people can make sure they can speak freely. While the option of toggling on/off the sticky note’s author is good. That’s not enough because anyone can still enable that by clicking on that action. My suggestion is to have an option to enable anonymous sticky notes in a particular FigJam file.

I want to create an auto layout carousel that has drop-shadow for each of the components while hovering. The carousel is designed to be showing half of the last visible component, so I enabled ‘clip content’…However, the problem is that it crops the drop-shadow…This is really annoying. Please enable a feature that exclude the clipping of shadow effects
