So lately I’ve been designing retro mockups and they use pixel fonts. On most design tools like GIMP, Pixel.net, and Photoshop, there is an option to use Aliasing (Disable Anti-Aliasing) for text, making it pixelated (no blurring caused by anti-aliasing) and unfortunately Figma does not have this, which makes me search for Bitmap fonts that only work on specific sizes to accomplish pixel fonts.

So I wanted to ask for an option to have Aliased fonts without Anti-Aliasing, to force them be pixelated.

Hi @ReduxFlakes, Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and detailing your use case and current challenges. I truly appreciate it.

I’ve taken some time to explore our community to see if there’s an existing plugin that could help, but unfortunately, I haven’t found one yet. I hope to gain some insights from our community on this.

Thanks again for your valuable input.

I have several projects where pixelated text is essential because it provides better contrast at small sizes. I’ll also note that for anyone designing retro game UIs, pixelated text is a requirement for most text.

Same Problem here … especially the small font sizes are very blurry after the export in the original Size – looks terrible. It would be nice to have an antialiasing feature like in photoshop to optimize the Font Rendering for Images. Yes, its oldschool but sometimes useful. In my case, I have to go back to Photoshop to rebuild the design there for a better export quality.

Being able to disable this would mean fonts look the same in Fimga as they do in the browser, which currently they don’t:

Figma left, browser right.

I find this frequently frustrating as I spend a lot of time getting the right weights and sizes, only to have it all undone when rendered in the browser.

I think we should not need to add sub pixel antialisasing/font smoothing in the code.
