Question

Paste to Replace no longer working properly in browser version?

Drew B

Paste to Replace is no longer working properly as of a few days ago. It seems to be using Paste as Text despite using the shortcut and context menu options for Paste to Replace.

Desktop app seems to be working as intended but I prefer the browser version if that’s still a viable option.

In browser I have tried:

  • Logging out/in
  • Signing out of other devices
  • Clearing browser cache, history, etc.

Worst case I can switch to desktop app, just curious if I’m doing something wrong here.

Thank you!

Hi @Drew B, thank you so much for bringing this to our attention.

Our engineers are currently investigating this, but in the meantime, can you try the following steps:

  • Try a different browser?
  • Check browser extensions- Can you try disabling browser extensions and check if that helps?
  • Review other apps- do you have any apps installed on your computer that modify the clipboard content? If so can you try disabling these, and check if that helps?

As a temporary workaround, can you please try the following?:

  1. Turning off the clipboard permission for Figma on the browser (screenshot below)
  2. Reload the site
  3. See if you can paste contents as expected

I really appreciate your patience while we work on this. Please let me know if any of these steps help, and feel free to reach out with any updates or further questions!

Thanks again!

Hi Gayani,

Thanks for the follow up. Forgot to mention, the browser I’m currently experiencing issues is with Chrome.

Steps I’ve taken within Chrome:

  • Reset clipboard permissions for Figma
  • Reloaded page
  • Relaunched browser
  • Disabled remaining extensions

Unfortunately these did not work for Chrome. In addition, I can’t seem to find any apps that would interfere with clipboard content.

However, I tried launching Figma in a different browser (Brave) and Paste to Replace worked as intended.

Hope this helps. Thank you!

No updates in the Chrome browser from my experience. I’ve ended up using the desktop client for now.

Hi Figma Community,

I am encountering an issue while using Figma on Google Chrome (Windows). When I copied (component, section, frame, etc) or any other element and attempt to use the "Paste to Replace" (Ctrl+Shift+R) function, only the text gets pasted, and other parts of the component do not replace as expected.

Has anyone experienced this issue or found a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@Dhinesh13 I think this is the same experience we are all having on the thread.

I just tested it on the Brave browser, and it seems to be working fine there. Looks like this might be a Chrome-specific issue.

I’m also having the same issue in Chrome.  Interestingly I just tried opening in safari and it seems the paste to replace option is not in the right click menu and the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+R doesn’t work at all.

Joining the queue as I was experiencing the same thing on Chrome. Blocking clipboard access worked for me @Gayani_S

Hey everyone! Thank you for sharing these details with me, just wanted to share a small update that our team has released a potential fix for the problem.

Could you please try turning the clipboard settings back on for Figma in Chrome, then restart Chrome, and check if the copy and paste functionality is working now?

If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are always here to assist you.

This issue started occurring for me last evening using a browser. I can no longer paste to replace an existing image with a new image within a frame. Super challenging. I can only achieve this with the Upload from Computer function right now. Using Google Chrome Version 134.0.6998.166 (Official Build) (arm64).
