Intermittent Line Height Decrease When Clicking on Text

Hello, I am a user of Figma based in South Korea.

Over the past week, several designers on our design team have been experiencing an intermittent issue where the line height of text decreases. However, this issue has not yet been resolved, and I am curious if other users are facing the same problem.

We are using the font 'Noto Sans KR' for our text styles. When we double-click on a text box that is using this font to enter edit mode, we notice that the line height suddenly decreases.

After uninstalling and reinstalling the font on our computers, or overwriting the font file and then accessing Figma again, the text with reduced line height returns to its original line height when clicked. However, this solution is temporary, as the same issue can occur again the next day.

This phenomenon appears intermittently among designers, and some designers have not yet experienced this issue.

I have attached example video below. This problem is causing significant inconvenience in our work, and we sincerely hope for a prompt resolution.

Hey all - according to everyone’s reports here, it looks like the common denominator is the noto sans font. I’ve filed a bug ticket to see if there are issues being triggered when using that specific font family. Will update when I hear more.

Hiya everyone - I know it’s been a while, but I wanted to update you on the status of the bug report I originally filed.

First, thank you @Sonia14 for offering up some suggestions - much appreciated!

Lastly, this is not considered a bug, but expected behavior at this time, because of the recent font update. I hope this was helpful to at least provide closure.

Hello! @ksn

Thanks for getting back to us and letting us know the cause of the issue, even though it took a little while.

Upon understanding that the problem stemmed from the line height information of the Noto Sans font changing due to the font update, we addressed it by adjusting our existing font styles.

For those who might be encountering the same problem, we'd like to share how we solved it. It's a straightforward approach, but hopefully useful for reference:
_____

Previously, we were using 'auto' line height in our Figma font styles.
We confirmed that in our actual development environment, line-height: 1.4 was applied to all fonts. So, we changed the line height for all Figma font styles to '140%'.
Publishing the styles with 140% line height allowed us to revert the line height to be similar to how it was before the font update.
_____

Hope this helps!
