Hi,

we have renamed and moved some variables around.

Since some of these variables were previously implemented by the Dev Team it is important for us to track which variables have been changed and what the original name and position was.

We thought we could check the Version History but it seems there is no way to see the variables panel while viewing an old version of the file.

Trying to view an older version of the file while the Variables panel is open also doesn’t work as clicking an older version in the version history doesn’t load that version (you can only duplicate o restore it).

So it seems variables are excluded from the version history and there is no way to roll-back changes or event just view old versions of variables.

Am I reading this right?

Does anyone know a way to see older versions of variables?

Thanks!

Hey @AdamFab, thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear you’re having trouble!

This sounds like this may be a bug that our team has been working on and should be able to help with, if they take a look at your file. Can you please reach out to the support team directly via this form for help? https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Please use your Figma account email, include a link to the file, and share edit access with support-share@figma.com, so we can take a closer look.

Quick update.

I’ve been in contact with Figma Support and have been told that this isn’t a bug. It’s the current behaviour (see attachment).

This has been noted to the product team but after a few weeks have not received any further feedback.

This kind of ‘behaviour’ is justifiable on a feature in Beta.

Version history and Variables incompatibility…

Really bad UX of navigating, editing or moving Variables…

Only 4 modes for payed plans…

Can’t wait for Variables to REALLY come out of Beta…
