Question

Unable to apply variables to radius, border, etc

Sean_Tubridy

I’m unable to see the variables icon in any of the fields where they are supposed to appear. Right clicking on the field doesn’t provide the option in the dropdown either. I’m on a pro plan using the latest version of the desktop app.

Hey @Sean_Tubridy, thank you for reaching out and sharing a screenshot with us!

Can you confirm if you’ve set up local Variables set up in the file? If not please try setting up a numbers Variable and let me know if it still doesn’t work then?
If you don’t have any variables then you are not being shown variable options.
Feel free to check our Help Center article to set up a number variable: Create a variable, Apply a number variable

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, happy to help further.

Hi @Gayani_S I’m facing the same issues right now. We’ve added number variables to a separate file and published that as a library. What’s weird is that for the components that already have it connected, we can see it. But the moment it is detached, the icon does not appear and we cannot connect it anymore.

Can you please help me figure out a solution for this?

Hey @amantiwari, thank you for reaching out!

Let me ask the team internally for help. Can you let me know if this is happening in the browser and the desktop app?

Will get back to you asap. Appreciate your patience in the meantime.

Hey @amantiwari! Our team needs to further investigate here. I’ve just created a support ticket on your behalf. Your ticket number is #1121255, for reference.

Please share a direct link to the file with the support team, and invite support-share@figma.com with “can edit” permission so they can look into this further. Note that users with @figma.com emails on your team do not count towards your billing.

Our support team usually takes up to 24 hours to reply back to emails - tends to be quicker than that in normal circumstances. However, please be aware that we are facing increased contact volume so there might be a delay

Thanks,
Gayani

Hey @Roman_Derevyanko, thank you for reaching out!
I peaked in the support ticket from the user who posted this topic. I’ve seen their issue got resolved on its own with the update.
Can you please check if you make sure you have the newest version of the operating system?
Also can you try clearing out your cache in the browser? Please follow these steps for the desktop app : Clear desktop app cache

Please let me know if that resolved your issue? Happy to help out further!

Hey @PeterR, thanks for reaching out! I understand how frustrating it can be to run into issues like this. Can you please check the following:

  1. Can you confirm if this issue occurs in the browser version of Figma as well? This can help narrow down whether it’s specific to the desktop app.

  2. Please try clearing your cache, clearing the cache resolves unexpected behavior. Here’s how to clear your cache for common browsers:

For the desktop app, follow these steps: Clear Desktop Cache.

  3. If clearing the cache doesn’t work, try deleting the app and reinstalling it. This can refresh the setup and resolve some issues.

Please let me know if this does not resolve the issue and I’ll connect you with our support team to investigate further.

Thanks in advance!

Hello @Gayani_S , I’m having the same problem here. I’ve tried clearing cache both the browser and desktop app and nothing happend 🙁

I discovered that it only happens with new files in my professional account. In older files I can still use variables without problem. Since when does this happen? I don’t know 🤔
