I used to be able to quickly alt+drag elements outside of frames/groups/component sets, but that’s no longer possible since a few weeks ago.

Even I ctrl+C and ctrl+V far away from the frame on the canvas, with the frame deselected, the pasted element still appears within the frame it’s originating from.

Sometimes I need to export as files objects in a component set. Due to what seems like another bug (each time I try to export from a component set a selection of items it will only export one single item). When I try to alt+drag elements out of it or copy paste them away, they will appear in that frame still. So I have to drag them out of it manually. This also creates significant problems when all I want to do is create an instance as it forcingly creates a new master, which then I need to pull out of the frame, make another copy of it that’s actually an instance, that I then need to Detach.

Is there any fix for this. Maybe a setting that’s on by default.

I’m on W11, I have yet to receive the newest interface. Paid Team.

Hi @Rafa4, Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I can understand how frustrating it is when something doesn’t work as expected.

I tested on my end(Mac) and it appears to be functioning correctly, as shown here: Create a responsive card with auto layout and constraints > Add play-button instance to the frame So it sounds like that the tool is not functioning correctly.

After trying these quick fix and still encountering the same issue, would you be able to provide a recording demonstrating the problem? Please remember to capture the entire Figma screen.

Additionally, when you paste, did you have any frame selected? In my test, if I didn’t select a frame when pasting, the object was pasted on top of the copied object, regardless of where the mouse pointer was located.

In the meantime, you may want to try using the “paste here” option. This feature allows you to paste an object based on the position of your cursor. For additional guidance, you can explore the Copy and Paste Playground

I look forward to hearing from you soon! If there was any misunderstanding, please feel free to inform us.

Thanks again for reaching out.

I’m running into the same issue on my mac. I can use option key to measure, but when I try to option + drag to copy and paste, it does not work. For the record, I just updated to the latest Figma. My Figma software on my work computer still works so it looks like it’s only on my personal Figma space.
