Question

How do I add students to my class?

I’ve seen the page about how to do this, but it raises a lot of questions. My high school students do not have a district or school issued email as referenced in the article. Last year, when I tried to add them, several ended up with accounts that were not designated as students and I couldn’t figure out how to change that or add them. How do I fix that if that happens again?

When I asked for help, I said I specifically needed to make a video about how to do this step by step to make sure my students got walked through it and I was told there were videos already. But I can’t find those. Can anyone point me to one? Not a general “make an account” video and not one for an educator, but one specifically about how to make a STUDENT account and join a class.

I also have a lot of confusion about what students can see if they join my team. I have different classes and I don’t want them to see all my boards. I also have boards that I don’t want them to mess with until it’s time for them to use it. Plus, I don’t want them to jump back on later and mess up my templates. I understand how to change the settings on a board, but what happens with the student is on my “team” and has editing power? Am I still able to stop them from getting into the boards? And if so, HOW?

I wish Figma would hold a big seminar about how to actually solve a lot of these basic issues. There are so many videos about features, which is great, I guess. But I can’t use them if I can’t figure out how to add a student.

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out to the community.
This video tutorial can help you on how to create and verify the educational status:

For more information, please check this article that goes over all the details for the educational plan: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041061214-Verify-education-status Hope this helps!

I’m posting in the hopes that other people in my situation see. The above answer is useless for my situation. I did finally get an answer from Figma that was clear. Note how I said my students do not have institutional emails associated with my school.

Students who do not have emails associated with your school cannot get educational accounts. So I wasted a ****ton of time on this product. This was not made completely clear in the support materials. It’s certainly not made totally clear in that video.
