Hello Figma community!

I’m currently experiencing an issue when trying to share the Figma screen during my presentations on Google Meet using my MAC. When I share the Figma window, the screen freezes on the initial view, and to update it, I have to put Figma in full-screen mode.

I would like to know if anyone has encountered this situation and if there’s any configuration or solution to allow me to present my project without the need to go into full-screen mode. This issue has been a challenge in my meetings, and I appreciate any suggestions or guidance you can provide.

Thank you in advance for the collaboration of the Figma community!

Same problem, both on Safari and Chrome! I noticed it freezes when I click on a window other than Figma’s. To unfreeze, you have to go fullscreen.

I have the same issue.

Within Google Meet I can share my Figma screen but it freezes from the initial screen.

I can go around Figma normally.

However, when I go fullscreen Google Meet is able to see everything again and follow me around. When I go to other pages, it all works well.

When I open a new file, than it freezes again. In order to get Google Meet to follow me again, I have to either go fullscreen or go out of fullscreen.

Currently I’m also on Mac OS Sonomo but it happened with the previous version as well.

I’m on a Macbook Pro, 2019 i7 model.

Figma desktop and Chrome are on the latest version as of today.

Unfortunately, it didn’t work for me.

Update on my previous post. For my fiancé it worked without any issues and she was on 14.1.2.

Today she updated her macOS to 14.2.1 and the same issue happens to her now. So there’s clearly something wrong in the latest Sonoma update but not clear how that links to Figma and window screen sharing.

In case anyone from Figma or Apple engineering are here, we develop our own app that includes screen sharing and our customers are having this problem as well (https://ro.am). Our app is based on Electron, and we’re close to finishing a Chromium patch that uses the non ScreenCaptureKit capturer when a user picks to share the Figma window, which we’ve confirmed works. We haven’t heard of this causing an issue for sharing any other applications. I can also confirm that a simple desktop application that does screen recording with SCK exhibits this issue (I used GitHub - Mnpn/Azayaka: A small macOS menu bar-residing screen and system audio recorder which uses the ScreenCaptureKit API in Ventura). For Figma I got a static screen in the mp4, for other applications I got a normal recording. I can also confirm that I didn’t have the issue with 14.1.2 but that I did later today after updating to 14.2.1.

Hey all,

Thanks everyone for all these details! We’ve escalated to our engineering team, they are investigating the issue.

We will keep you posted. Thanks for your patience in the meantime 🙏

Also having the screen freeze issue, for maybe 2 weeks now. So is at least one the other designers on my team. We’re all on Sonoma 14.2.1 and using the Figma Mac app. Sharing with the Figma plugin is fine.

Hi there! I’ve experienced a similar issue a few weeks ago. To resolve it, try updating your Figma and Google Meet to the latest versions. Also, check your Mac’s display settings and ensure hardware acceleration is enabled in Figma.

Same here, our entire company has stopped being able to share the Figma app when in google meet. we’ve had to resort to using Figma on the web. We’re on Sonoma 14.2.1 and that’s when we’ve also started to see this issue.

Hey everyone,

Our engineering team has found the root cause of the issue! They are working in a fix.

We will let you know once the fix has been deployed, thanks for your patience!

I’m having the same problem. Both on google meet and slack. Figma screen sharing freezes and no longer shows anything. One solution, until they completely fix it, is to share it as a Full Screen, and not just a Figma window. This way, you will share everything that is shown on the screen, including when you change windows, be careful

Same issue here. Excited to see if the fix works!

I can confirm this is a temporary workaround for the issue. In my case, if I make another Figma tab active, the sharing freezes again though, so I need to maximize and reduce the app window once more.

I have the same issue. Sharing my entire screen works, but sharing just the Figma window does not (only the first frame shows but nothing else).

Same issue here! Cannot share Figma app in Google meeting, it only works for the web version

I think for me, it happens every time when I try to pinch to zoom using the trackpad, and the screen share will freeze from that point on.

Hello, is there any update regarding when we can expect the fix?

Hi everyone,

To give some visibility, it appears as though the fix was not deployed as expected, as other issues were caused by the fix. The engineering team is currently investigating further and working on a permanent fix, so I will provide you with an update as soon as one is given. Thanks for your patience!

Yeap. for me it doesn’t matter if it’s full screen or not and it’s the whole prototype interactions related to clicks, scrolling and hovering seems fine.

Thanks for keeping us updated @Celine_Figma, fingers crossed that it’s sorted soon.

EDIT: I just updated Figma, tried it in google meet and seems to work fine.

Update: I just did the latest OS update and it seems to work for me now.

Hi everyone! We are pleased to inform you that the fix has been successfully released!

Please update your Figma desktop application to version 116.15.15 or redownload a copy of the latest version from here: https://www.figma.com/downloads/.

If you continue to experience the issue, please let us know the version you are using and we will flag it down for further investigation.

We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you. Your feedback has been valuable in helping us improve our product, and we appreciate you taking the time to report the problem. Thank you!

It works again for me! Thanks 😃

Strange even after updating we are still experiencing this issue with Google Meet and Figma Desktop 116.15.15. Tried to use the latest Safari and Chrome on macOS 14.3 but the issue continues. Using the full screen share workaround or figma.com seem to be fine.

If you’re still experiencing it on 116.15.15 you might need to do an additional restart for the fix to kick in.
