Figma desktop app - macOS


So, first of all for me the check for updates feature never worked. I click on it and nothing would happen. The only exception to this was when I actually checked for updates after a fresh install for the app. I usually just downloaded the latest version and then installed it manually.


Now, for a while the new versions available won’t install anymore and the app gets broken.

I tried everything: overwriting, fresh install. Same issue.

Here’s what happens:



  1. I copy the app into the Applications folder.

  2. I run the app.

  3. I get this progress window:

  4. After that’s done, the app is broken:

  5. When I open the broken app I get this:

I tried this a couple or times in the past month or so… same result.


Anybody got a fix for this? I’m currently stuck at version 97.7 which is the last one that works on my mac.

Hi there.


My colleague is having difficulty downloading and installing the Figma desktop app. I am trying to debug it with him on stream, and still cannot figure it out. From what I understand, in the Figma folder, there should be an executable ‘Figma.app’ file. It appears on my Windows PC, but it doesn’t appear on my colleagues’ system. Screenshots attached.

Hello. I have the same problem with catalina 10.15.7. The intel-version works but i cannnot open any figma files from my desktop, not even from this version saved ones…

I’m using the MacbookPro M1 processor and I’m experiencing the same issue, version Big Sur 11.6. Is there any solution?

Yes my mac is having the same issue - the fix doesn’t work for me

Bump. App not working, same issue as above. I’ve tried the download from the site, and the suggested fix for mac and but is incompatible with my Mac. Rolling with Big Sur 11.6


Any work around @poiru? I’ve had this issue for about a month, & the web version is playing silly buggers.

Hi! Try to move Figma installation file from download to any other folder (documents, for example), then run it.


To me it’s works. Mojave 10.14.6. Now Figma 104.1
