Hey!

I just found out that the new feature of password protecting is kinda destroying workflow with file covers we have in our team. I understand that protected file preview should be hidden, but ONLY for not-team users. Me and my team have full access to the files, and yet we have thumbnail replaced by placeholder with key icon. Can we somehow override this while maintaining password protection? 🙂

I can only echo what has already been said to keep this topic going… It’s unfortunate that this is still an issue. If thumbnail privacy is a real concern, why not let us at least control it’s visibility? Opening Figma to be greeted by a bunch of identical grey boxes feels awful.

We are strongly heading for a year anniversary of this topic 😏 I wonder when someone from @Figma_Support will stumble upon it and let us know when they can fix it, or just put it on a roadmap 🙄

+1 Lets keep that feature request alive.

Is there any/ update on this feature request?

Unfortunately, none 😦

If I’m a logged in user with full access to a file, I will see the password protected icon instead of the thumbnail I set for the file. This is silly since I don’t need to use the password to see the file. I want to see the preview i set instead when looking at it as Tiles (not List).

Yeah I was sad to see this is not implemented as of yet. Using thumbnails to organise files is really helpful, but most of our files are shared with clients so they will be password protected. Hopefully the add this feature soon!

Oof. I really need this fixed soon. We need to be able to set a password for people that don’t use our file often without impacting the people that use it the most. Please fixxxxx, @Figma_Support

+1 BUMP to provide more options around this please

I have the same problem 😦

i need show the thumbnails.

This seems like a fairly easy fix Figma, just have the lock icon on top of the thumbnail cover

Any update on this topic, Figma? It is really annoying and seems to be a super easy fix!

Me too. This would be a great update. We often use color-coded thumbnail screens to indicate a specific client or status. Much appreciated!

Helloooooo figma! anybody with a UX background working at this company?

While it’s nice to see, if there is a password-lock on a file, make it “a little” less obtrusive, please.

We are visual people and love to get overview and confidence by looking at thumbnail-graphics.

So pleeeeease figma-product management wake up and get such things sorted.

one workaround we used was

  1. create a new page

  2. set the cover only on the new page

  3. add the designs to the pages below the cover page

  4. set the cover page as a cover page then restore the default thumbnail (think of it as an off and on switch)

  5. then set your file password and set the permission as “can view prototype”

Still waiting on a official fix for this Figma, I wont let this post die.

Over a year later and still no resolution… When will this be fixed?

Experiencing the same issue. Could Figma please enable visibility of the cover for those who are assigned as editors or have been granted access to the file?

Not yet. 🤧

I second this petition. It’s been a year and we still have to squint our eyes to see the file’s title when it’s password protected. Even the key icon is almost indistinguishable from the background 😅

Please, guys, take a look.

Yes pleeeaaaseee fix this! This is ruining our workflow as well as we have a very meticulous cover system in place for finding & identifying documents among all our Figma files, and this ruins everything! 😩

I don’t quite understand these instructions unfortunately… Could you please explain them a bit more clearly?

This problem is really annoying. The problem could be solved so easily. Simply display the thumbnail under the key icon. If I don’t want other users to see the thumbnail, I don’t have to put it on the thumbnail.

Please Figma, fix this 🙏

If you are part of the team that has access by default to the Figma file, you should see the thumbnail regardless
