Hello. Does anybody know why I can’t change document styles? Options are greyed out.

Thanks,

Will

Hi there!

To cover grounds, could you check the instructions in Access local fonts on your computer to make sure your local fonts are set up correctly?

If you followed the instructions in the Help Article but are still running into trouble, feel free to send here the font file in question so the community can take a closer look!

Hi Celine, thanks for the reply.

This is taken from the Simple Design System UI Kit provided by Figma. It uses variables (I think) and a base set to Inter, which I have installed.

But I can’t find the option to change it anywhere, and all the menu options are greyed out with a generic font property.

I changed the fonts using a ‘Font Changer’ plug-in in frustration.

I’m relatively new to Figma but use Webflow to build design systems using CSS properties and variables. I find the Figma UI challenging to use.

As for using and updating components, I gave up and detached them all.

I can see the potential, but I find Webflow easier to use.

Can you recommend a good tutorial for users who build design systems but don’t understand the Figma UI yet?

Best wishes,

Will

Hey, thanks for details! Can you also confirm if you have made a copy of the Simple Design System UI kit?

You can make a copy of a UI kit to edit its assets or browse the design system.

  1. Open the UI kit’s Community page.

  2. Click Open in Figma.

  3. From the prompt window, choose Make a new copy.

  4. In the next prompt, choose the team or organization you want the copy to live in.

Once you choose a team or organization, a copy of the kit will be added to the draft folder of that space. Here’s a link of the kit:

https://www.figma.com/community/file/1380235722331273046

Then you will be able to edit your text style, and use that library you have edited:

You can also find addition information to start designing with UI Kits in this article:

If others in the community have any other interesting tutorials, feel free to share here.

Hope this helps!

Right. So now it makes sense. I must have attached it as an instance to an existing file. How, I do not know. I can now see the entire design system; before, it was all in the assets panel and uneditable. Hence all the confusion.

Thank you.

No worries, glad it clarifies now! I’ve gone ahead to mark as solved and closed this topic 🙂
