Why can’t I change spacing from “packed” to “space between” by just clearing amount in auto layout space between field?

Suggestion I got was “type ‘a’ and press enter”. Works every time

I think it was changed in recent update.
This is quite uncompotable for non-english users.
I have to change the keyboard language or much more clicks to change this option
