For the last 30 minutes I have been trying to open a .fig file in the Figma application on Mac OS. When I double-click the file, Figma app launches, but the file does not load. When I go to File > Open File Browser, nothing happens. I have already tried quitting and reopening the app.

Sorry to hear this happened. Did you get an error message and/or an infinite loading when you tried to open the file? Is it happening on your browser, desktop app or both?
Can you try first to clear out the cache to see if that helps? You can follow the steps here: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040328553-Can-I-work-offline-with-Figma-#clear-data
