If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

The recent change that places component variables above X/Y and H/W settings, though well-intentioned, creates friction for users dealing with complex components and multiple variants. This shift results in vital inputs being moved around, and their location becomes inconsistent based on the number of variants.

As someone who frequently optimizes design systems, I often manage components with up to 12 settings, including both the component and its children. I use X/Y and H/W inputs 3-5 times more frequently than I touch variants, making this new arrangement inefficient for my workflow.

Returning to the previous, consistent logic would greatly improve usability. After all, consistency is key in design, and it’s especially important in a tool meant to empower designers.

I’m not sure if I have the same root problem, but it has to do with the width of the elements and the new UI. Since the new UI, I can’t set the fixed width manually. When I click on “Fixed width” I only get a dropdown (fixed width, hug content, fill container), I can’t enter the desired number.

Hey everyone, thanks for sharing this feedback with us!

I’ve just forwarded this internally to the teams for consideration. Also checking if this is an expected behaviour “When I click on “Fixed width” I only get a dropdown (fixed width, hug content, fill container), I can’t enter the desired number.” @Nicolas16

I’ll get back to you asap, appreciate your patience in the meantime!

I might almost prefer component properties in their own tab of the right panel. In theory, users should be setting those first, and THEN modifying any of the other options on the design panel. These also can get very long, and could benefit from a dedicated panel/tab.

Hi, is there an update on how to manually input fixed width and bypass the dropdown that opens no matter where you click in the field?

Hi @Stefanija_Perkone! Thanks for reaching out, and I’m sorry for the frustration—this sounds quite inconvenient! Manually inputting a fixed width should indeed be straightforward, so if the dropdown is consistently opening and preventing that, it could be a bug in certain setups.

If possible, could you share a quick screen recording of the behavior? This would help our team understand the exact experience and look into potential causes or workarounds.

Thank you for your patience as we investigate this further!

Hi @Gayani_S , thank you for your response. I’ve since re-installed Figma and it indeed seems to have been a bug that since has been resolved with the re-install. As now all components seem to have the option to adjust Fixed width manually- like the expected behaviour.

Thanks again!

Just joining this conversation because this is literally killing my eyes and brain.

For people that might not understand the original post. What it basically means is that depending on what you click on, basic information like position, layout, appearance and other key information keeps moving around. So, every time you click on something new your eyes have to become used to the new position.

Those microseconds are very taxing for people that work 10 hours per day every day on Figma.

Its 7 PM and I searched to see if anyone else have this issue because my eyes are completely destroyed after a full day of work. Please help us fix this. This is not good UX. way too much mental and physical load.
