Lost access to files - potentially after email linked to Google account changed

I seem to have lost access to files that I own and am now being asked to request access.
I’m not sure if it’s related but the email behind my google account was changed some time ago. I haven’t accessed the files in a couple of months but now they don’t seem to be accessible at all.
