Disable the feature that suggests number variables in Figma

I’ve been using the Number variable feature in Figma to specify margin values, applying it only to the areas corresponding to the margins within the layout.

For the auto layout’s gaps, which don’t correspond to margins, I’ve been manually inputting numbers instead of applying Number variables. However, in dev mode, I’ve noticed that the suggested variable usage based on the value automatically proposes the closest Number variable value, which is then reflected in the code (you can also see the ‘Suggested variable usage based on the value’ tooltip).

Due to this suggestion feature, using Number variables has become quite inconvenient for me. I believe there should be an option to disable the Number variable suggestion feature.

Facing the similar issue here. Developers who I worked with were really confused at beginning.

Very annoying, please let us turn this off!

Please let us turn this feature off. It’s causing confusion and making dev hand-off more difficult.

Hey All, thanks for the feedback!

We’ll pass this onto the team for future improvement.

Exactly. We need this!

We need to turn this feature off. This is super problematic for us. Please Figma Fix sugested Variables.

Gotta pile on this one. So confusing. We have devs that are junior and designers who, well…

Example I just ran into: Designer gave flex a 24px gap. It suggested button-border-radius. Radius and Gap are very different and makes it easier (hopefully) to realize it may not be real. But a confusion with margin - maybe not - who knows. Only the little info icon knows for certain.

I’m struggling with the same problem. If it’s ever been used somewhere else, it’s constantly sugared. Finding and erasing it is also work.

This is causing confusion for our devs as well. We have not released any variables and none are active in the file so does Figma just suggest randomly? Flashbacks to the U2 album randomly appearing on my iPod.

What the fact is Figma doing with this feature?

It harms our architecture. Some developers are actually copy-pasting this nonsense and it ends up in production :fearful:

DISABLE and preferably REMOVE this feature forever please.
