Desktop app Updater not working for me

a5b929ba-7a52-4557-b199-e9b93794f569-updater
For a long time I have not got the updater to work (desktop app, mac). The update dialog opens then when I click “Install”, it closes Figma and then… nothing. I open Figma again and repeat. I know I can just download from the Figma site “manually”, but I’d love for this to work.

Is there anything I can do make the updater work? Clear a cache, delete a plist, do a dance?

Same thing, and support didn’t talk(

@Josh, thanks for moderating the community! I certainly won’t ping you every time I have a problem with Figma. By way of intro I am an early adopter and had my whole team at Virta using Figma when it was still in its infancy. I’m a superfan. Do you know of a fix for my issue?

Hey @David_Hatch and @Anatoly_Chemeris

Have you both tried to uninstall and install back again. You won’t loose any files and that usually does the trick for most of these issues.

I feel like I’ve done it before but I may be forgetting. To test the idea, maybe I can install an older version first to see if it works. Do you have a link to various builds? This only has the 1. Download Figma Desktop Apps, Mobile Apps, and Font Installers
Thanks!

Hey David :wave:t2: Where you’re seeing this happen, we suggest you check your system specs against ‘Download the Figma Desktop App’ and if that all looks good, try fully uninstalling all Figma apps (AppCleaner or Clean my Mac are my goes to here, but any App remover should work) and then installing the latest version from ‘Download the Figma Desktop App’ or Download Figma Desktop Apps, Mobile Apps, and Font Installers.
If this doesn’t help, can you send your system specs through to the Support Team by using the ‘?’ to ‘Get Help’ so we can help troubleshoot there. Thanks!

Hi David! Could you try removing the following directories:

  • ~/Library/Caches/com.figma.Desktop.ShipIt
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.figma.DesktopBeta.ShipIt

After you do that, it would be helpful if you could try updating again. You can force the update dialog to show up by quitting the desktop app and then launching it from the Terminal like this:

FIGMA_APP_VERSION=0 /Applications/Figma.app/Contents/MacOS/Figma

After it launches, it will download the update in the background and prompt you to update. Let us know how it goes!

Removed com.figma.Desktop.ShipIt and com.figma.Desktop (didn’t have DesktopBeta) . That did the trick! Thanks!

@Anatoly_Chemeris, this worked for me. Hopefully you too.
