Since we have variables now, I was thinking is it possible to change numbers in text based on the amount of layers? I am building table of content and thought about possibility to use variables to change numbers in chapters automatically every time I add new element in the the table of content.

Unless adding a new element is part of the experience described by your prototype you won’t be able to make that logic works. When in an interaction, you can only modify a variable using hard coded value (writing a number for example) or the value of a variable.
