Can't edit Figma file shared with me even though it's set to "anyone can edit"

Hi,

I’m trying to edit some Figma files that a company is sending to me and I can view them but I can’t edit them. I don’t know what the issue might be. They’ve assured me that they’ve set the access to “anyone can edit”. Can anyone help?

Thank you very much

all the best

Hi, can you share a screenshot?

Hi Nellya, What part of the screen do you need a screenshot of? The project is confidential so I can’t share the whole screen

There is no need to show the design. Can you click the share button and look that kind of access do you have against your name?

Hey there! Usually this happens when you have an issue in your team’s permission. Do you see any error message?

“Anyone with a link can edit” means anyone who is an editor on the team can edit, but not that all users can edit. If a user doesn’t have can edit team permission and only Full Design + Full FigJam permission, they will still be required to request edit permission on files.

It is also possible that you may have “Viewer-restricted” role on your team. You need to ask to your team admin to give you edit access, they can adjust your role to “Editor” from the Members tab of their team page.

I’ve also linked a guide below with more details if needed:
Manage team permissions

If you prefer not to share your file publicly here, please feel free to reach out directly to the support team with the url of the file: here
Be sure to use your Figma email account. The support team can investigate it further the permissions’ file. Hope this helps.

Sure, this is what it says

If you can’t edit the everyone can edit file, probably you have a viewer-restricted access, as Celine said. It means, that edit access for new users needs to be approved by admin.

This option is usually enabled in the team settings to avoid accidental payments for extra seats.

Screenshot is cropped, i don’t see your name and your access below.

Thanks so much for your help. I’ve been directly invited by the owners of the file to edit it, but still no luck. This is what they say that they can see next to my name

Hey @Laura70 ,

Yes, this typically means the user has “viewer-restricted” permission within the team that the file lives in.

Please make sure to ask your admin that you are an editor at the team level (and not only in the file level) in order to edit that file (by upgrading your user’s role on the team to “can edit”).

If your issue still persists, please reach out directly to the support with a URL of your file so they can check your permission right: [here].(https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new) Thank you!
