I can’t understand why there is no option to auto-publish / auto update components form a component library.

In my use case I cant se any reason not to publish updated components, so for me having to constantly publish and then update components every time I make the slightest change to a component to se the results are highly annoying.

Or am I doing something wrong?

The answer is very simple: this function does not exist in Figma. So feel free to vote up this idea here: Feature Request: Shortcut for publishing library and automatically updating files
