The current Tables feature in Figma feels quite limited. It would be fantastic if some basic functionalities could be introduced soon, such as:

•	The ability to easily resize cells without needing to adjust font size
• The option to merge cells
• Top, middle, and bottom text alignment options

These enhancements would bring Figma’s table functionality more in line with what we already have in tools like Keynote and Google Slides.

Hey @Anjali_Gajera, thanks for the feedback!

We’ll pass these onto the Slides team for future consideration.

Totally, Today I was creating this suggestion, but yours appears, so definitely consider this will be so useful.

Thank you for this thread. I totally relate to all three points. I Would just like to add “More options for border lines editing”

Agreed on all of these! Currently having to set up tables using lines, rectangles and auto-layouts since the tables function has limited customization capabilities. My method works but does take a little extra time every time I need to add, remove or resize a row/column, and it’s also a bit too complex for non-designers to figure out how to edit. Also, it’d be great if the tables function was also available in Design mode instead of just Slides mode.

All of what’s been said above is really important. The Table functionality, as it stands, seems at odds with the functionality and quality of the other features that it’s a massive barrier to using slides. It’s kind of expected in a presentation type product. Hoping this gets addressed soon!

Completely agree. As a PM, I am trying to push for my org to adopt Figma Slides over MS PPT but tables is the one power function that is blocking us from making the switch.

My team has been loving slides for a day, until we needed to add a table (budget calculation)… We wanted to finally switch over from Keynote, but the extreme limitations are prohibiting us right now.

One feature I think would be amazing would be basic formula operations inside the tables, such as adding etc. Keynote has this and we can’t really work without it.

My team would love to use figma slides but the table functionality is way too limited… Please Figma poduct team improve the table options to be more robust like the other three industry standard options.

Our Large Org team of designers finds too many limitations within the tables. Here’s a list to build upon what’s already been said above. You can also reference this figma plug-in for a exact samples of features I believe should be available in the native table options.

  • Custom Border options on cells and rows
  • Distribute rows and columns evenly
  • Header row option
  • Alternate row shading
  • Merge Cells
  • Adjust Text to align top, middle, or bottom in cells.
  • Cell Padding option

Figma UI Table Bulider Plugin; If they can do it, you can do it! 😉

Hope this gets addressed soon!

Figma is an amazing tool and I cannot wait to fully switch from PowerPoint, however the table functionality is so limited it does not make the switch possible - I still need to create tables in PowerPoint and import as image in Figma, which defeat the purpose.

Basic functionalities like merging cells, adding & deleting rows/ columns, adjusting rows/ columns width and height, adjusting text placement in the cells - are not possible today. It would be amazing if those could be added. As per today, this lack of feature hinders the use of Figma for business presentation sadly.

@djv Any communications from the Slides team on future features/improvements to the tables options yet??? I see were coming up on a year since this  @Anjali_Gajera brought up this most important topic!

We have to at least have some sort of roadmap here 😞 I will have to pull my team off Slides if there’s no indication, we’re just doing horrible workarounds right now because we love the tool so much.

Hey All, thanks for the continued feedback here!

I synced with the team and can confirm that this is still on the team’s radar for improvement. While I can’t provide an exact timeline yet, I can share that the Slides team and the FigJam team are already combing forces to substantially improve tables in the near future.

I just want to make the dang rows smaller to fit in more data.

Seems like font size or line height doesn’t adjust it, and manually resizing stops at like 91 height?

Reposting from another thread of mine, just to have all suggestions in one place (and make some noise):

Would be great to have basic formatting properties for tables. Cell color is not enough to create certain data visualizations.

  • Stroke properties: color, weight, line type (dashed, solid)
  • Merge cells: just a must
  • Drop shadow: for table as a whole. At least in design mode
  • Headers: ability to select hoe many rows to display as header
  • Footers: same as headers
  • Alternating colors
  • Basic filtering or tagging
  • Support in design files

Just adding a +1 that i was unable to use the table function simply because I can’t make the rows smaller? There’s default padding which is a lot of padding and it wouldnt fit on the page.

Hey, I just want to emphasize how important this is to – seemlingy – alot of people. This is a feature that’s literally mission critical; we cannot use is in the state it is in.

I would say at the least:

  • Stroke properties: color, weight, line type, top, bottom, left, right
  • Padding: How is this missing?

At this point, it’s easier to design in another (any other) app and import an SVG
