Set Default Text Properties

It would be awesome if we could set properties like font, size, alignment so everytime we start a textbox it would have all the properties already set.

This exists and works with shapes for example, but the text ends up overridden by the last textbox you edited.

Is there a way to workaround this or should it be a possible new feature?

    Yup. Same problem here. Looks like “set default” isn’t actually setting the default. It would be nice if Figma disabled it for fonts. Or maybe when a type frame is selected, have the menu change to “set default color” which seems to work?

      It does seem to work now for font family and alignment, but still not for font color.

          Same, selecting a textbox, setting the text color to a variable, then, with the textbox still selected choosing Edit > Set Default Properties. Figma then says “Default Properties Set”, but the next time I use the text tool to create a new textbox, the text defaults back to #000000.

          This is very frustrating!

          @Figma - any chance of a fix to this obvious bug? I’ve been seeing these reports for over a year now...

            Interestingly, it DOES work if you apply a Colour STYLE (not a colour VARIABLE). I’ve never understood why we had colour styles and colour variables anyway, but this is one (perhaps the only) reason to favour colour styles over variables.

            Anyway, the way I’m using this is to create an ugly, default text colour to remind me to change the text to my default text variable color whenever I create a new textbox. Still a total pain, but at least I’m less likely to forget that way.

            Or in my case it is the opposite? Every new text frame I try to write is in black, but I want it in white and no matter what I do it stays in black
