Request for Feature Addition: Master Selection for Alignment in Figma

Umer_Maqsood

Dear Figma Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share a suggestion for a potential feature enhancement in the Figma design tool that I believe would greatly benefit its users, including myself.

As an active user of Figma, I have frequently encountered scenarios where precise alignment of objects is essential for achieving desired design outcomes. However, aligning multiple objects based on a single master reference point remains a challenge within the current feature set of Figma.

To address this, I propose the implementation of a “Master Selection” feature in Figma. This feature would enable users to designate a specific object as the master reference point for alignment operations. When aligning other objects using Figma’s alignment tools, they would automatically align relative to the designated master object.

Key aspects of this proposed feature include:

  1. User-defined Master Object: Users would have the flexibility to designate any object within their design as the master reference point for alignment.
  2. Non-Movable Master Object: Once designated, the master object would be locked in place and unaffected by alignment operations, ensuring consistent alignment across the design.
  3. Seamless Alignment: Aligning other objects with respect to the master object would streamline the alignment process, enhancing precision and efficiency in design workflows.

By incorporating the suggested “Master Selection” feature, Figma would empower designers with greater control and efficiency in aligning elements within their designs. This enhancement aligns with Figma’s commitment to providing intuitive and robust design solutions that cater to the diverse needs of its user base.

I believe that implementing this feature would significantly enhance the usability and effectiveness of Figma as a design tool. I kindly request the consideration of this suggestion by the Figma development team and look forward to any updates or insights you may provide regarding its feasibility and potential integration into future releases.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I remain enthusiastic about the continuous improvement of Figma’s capabilities.

How this still not part of the core feature set?

I agree this is needed. Very disappointed I can’t set a key object for alignment
