I’ve recently moved from Sketch to Figma. Our System Design of Al Jazeera Media Network’s news website is huge. I was able to successfully migrate it completely in a very short time. It was a great migration project. I too much miss the feature of moving a selected layer by clicking option+command and dragging anywhere in the canvas. I can’t tell how important is this feature. I am about to cry 🙂 … Hopefully someone from Tech team in Figma takes it in consideration
Issue: When embedding prototypes in Figma slides (or just design frames with scroll group / overflow content) it’s easy to miss the desired target and instead click the slide, which then changes the next slide. Annoying when showcasing a new prototype/design to an audience. Solution: Make it possible for the presenter to decide which input is needed to change slide, eg. only arrow keys, so mouse clicks only changes frames/prototypes elements and not slide deck.
So the side panel hides when you press "Shift + " which is perfect if you like a full screen experience. I find two problems with that. Some times I want to check the pages inside the panel. What I currently do is pressing the shortcut again and navigate the panel, which is ok, but it would be nice to hover over the left hand side region, or the title of the side panel that remains and temporarily display the left side panel. An other workaround is by pressing the “fn+up/dwn arrows” which works like a charm. The problem with this though is that I do not know in which page I am each time. It would be nice with this shortcut to either activate the above described temporary functionality or to write the name of the page somewhere.
Having only backspace to delete a slide causes me to delete a lot of slides on accident and then panic to undo and get them back. I suggest adding a combination command to delete, like Shift + Backspace.
I have an idea for working with components. What if we add a checkbox that lets us choose whether to apply changes to the text or just to the component’s style, without affecting the text? Currently, we’re facing issues with complex components and variants. When we update the text in one component, it sometimes causes unintended changes to the text in other components across different screens.
It can be very tricky (impossible) to add a dev mode annotation to a parent element, that has no padding, because the cmd+T tool will always select the child the you click on. Like here, I end up adding the annotation on the third child, but actually I want it to go on the parent with all three elements. Maybe some keyboard shortcut like Shift+Enter in Design mode, that simply moves the selection and annotation up one level.
Previously it was set to be 1920x960, and now is supposedly 1920x1080. This wouldn’t be a problem if the remaining width of the cover was ignored in the actual thumbnail in the file explorer just as before, but now all my covers have black bars up and down. Why this sudden change? The files in the community still have the previous behavior where the search results showed a thumbnail a little bit thinner than the actual cover size when you open the file.
I would like to be able to manually pull a node to another node, see image example of red connector line.
Similarly to what Figma allows to do with Paragraph indent, I’d love to see the paragraph outdent feature. This is well-known typographic technique from print design and it’s time to bring it to Figma.
When replacing a photo using ‘Fill’ and selecting ‘Upload from computer,’ I would love it if the image name could remain the same, instead of being replaced with the current image’s name. I often need to source photos from Figma, and having the original image name helps me keep things organized. This would make things much easier 🙂
We spend so much time utilizing and shaping nested instances in our components. In UI3, they collapsed by default, which feels like a buried functionality for DS that utilizes wrappers and slot architecture. The decision to hide nested props makes no sense. We won’t use nested props if we don’t need to expose nested instances on a high level. Selecting which props from nested to expose and hide not exposed would be much more useful to keep a clean UI.
The current properties position in UI3 is so far near the top. I spend most of my time in the middle to bottom of my screen, only really using the top for navigation. I would love to see the “Change Properties” available as a quick action.
The idea of combining Layout and Auto Layout settings is cool, but the idea of merging two categories of input fields into one is not. It makes the workflow worse, because both settings are important and often you need to see them at the same time. But now Fill/Hug is always visible, and height/width disappears if there is auto layout. Now to find out the size of an object you have to either 1. look at the bottom edge of your frame (not always possible, you have to scroll down if it’s long), or 2. move the cursor over the size input field (which is a time-consuming movement), or 3. make the right panel very wide (which eats up the working area). There’s no benefit to combining important settings. In any case, even in the new interface there are so many of these settings that they go into the scroll anyway. So please let these inputs live separately ❤️ (video demonstrates the problem described above)
In the Figma Slide Deck, in the left hand tool box it´s hard to see which slide is selected when I have several duplicates of the same slide. Is it possible to make the contrast a bit bigger between selected and unselected slides
I would love if you could see which comments were read/unread directly on the frames! As well as a sneak peak of some of the conversation as an option directly on screen vs only in sidebar. I would also love as a filtering option in the sidebar if you could filter to only show comments or comments related to that specific frame and another filtering option to see that specific section. I think the comments section can be improved since my team often gets lost in them and ends up messaging in slack which I find hard to track and make edits this way. Would love if a tips bar popped up for new users to teach them how to use the comments and how to filter etc since the filtering is a little hidden. Wish the filtering was and sorting was less hidden!
Hello! As a user who wants to maintain accurate information in my profile, but wants a simpler experience in the Comments functionality, I would like to have a separate setting to change the name that gets used in mentions. I would like to use my full name for my “account” name, and just my first name for my “handle” or “mention name”. Right now, the handle and account name are one-and-the-same.
At this moment it is not possible to Star/favorite files that are shared with me from another Figma account. I’d realllllly like to. Also having a " Shared with me" folder woud be more intuitive then clicking a tab within " Recents"… (could be shared with me over a year ago) Greetings, Hans
To make Figma Design Files better for collaboration with Product Managers or people without design/dev seat it would be nice to: Make comments more like annotations, so they don’t overlap the actual design screen Make it possible to show/hide all comments of one design page at once (currently it’s only shown on the side menu, where it’s hard to know to which screen it refers to) Make it possible to add tags to comments. (Like Requirement, Open Question, etc.)
At the moment it is only possible to view screens with viewport 360px with the Google Nexus 5X device in prototyping presentation mode. This device is quite old and has only 640px viewport height. It would be nice to add custom devices or to have state of the art android devices with viewport 360px width to choose, for example Samsung Galaxy S21 (viewport 360 x 800px) It’s crucial to have some fancy looking devices for management presentation or usability tests with customer. (Not everyone is designing for iPhones… 😉 )
Making Logos and unusual shapes is very hard in Figma. Can you make pen tool better?
When I bring a component into FigJam and want to change it to another variant, it doesn’t give me a text label to understand which variant I’m changing it into. Would be a great quality of life improvement!
Hi all, I have been starting to use Figma Slides and I understand that this is still in Beta. One major issue I have with the experience has been to not easily navigate between slides. There’s an option to use Scroll of zoom but there should be an option to use Scroll for moving up and down the slides. Also as a default, page down and page up should do this but that doesn’t seem to work either. The only way is to use the arrow keys. I consider moving between slides one of the most used interactions and limiting this movement is a very poor experience. Thanks
I liked that I could press ‘K’ and then ‘tab’ to scale stuff to a specific widths/heights. In the new design this functionality requires mouse click or 33 tabs…
I heard panels will be turned back to the original design? Probably one of the few ones here that actually has been enjoying the new UI - it was quite refreshing. Could it just be possible to allow us to have 3 options instead? New UI3, Fixed panels UI3, previous version I was very hesitant to use the new UI3 at first, but after using it for a while it’s been quite good. I do got to say the fixed panels with the middle bar now looks very strange as side panels turn rectangular and the middle panel still has curved edges - would you be considering turning the middle panel into a square shape instead to be consistent in design?
Please add the feature to use pen in Figma, lately I realized that I can do some motion design using the smart animate feature, which is a feature that is sometimes not found even in motion design tools.
