To give you some visibility, this extra padding is the expected behaviour for FigJam, but if you copy and paste the content over to a Figma Design file, you should have much more control over how it exports.

If you’re not using Figma Design regularly, then Export from Figma and Export formats and settings may be helpful in understanding the options available for different exports.

As a workaround, in FigJam you can also right-click on an image to ‘Copy as PNG’ > select ‘Transparent’ background which should not have any padding applied. Hope this helps!

Yeah I was hoping to find a solution that would stay within the FigJam file, I tried exporting with transparent background but it’s still exporting with a border… though just a transparent one.

I want to share the FigJam file with people who are not Figma users, and I want them to be able to extract images directly from the FigJam file. Oh well, Thanks for the reply though.

I take a screenthot, bring it into FigJam and be default it has a border. I dont want this. I expect to go to my preferences and uncheck a box that says “add border to image by default” or something along these lines.

This is very odd behavior. Why does Figma add a border? The default should be to export an image as is.

Hey Figma, please sort this out. The border is creating a crazy unnecessary step in my workflow. Miro doesn’t have this problem. Big upvote for this fix.

Hi Celine – but why? This border is so tremendously irritating. What is it’s purpose? Is it a kind of dark pattern to encourage more Figma use? We’re already using Figma. We just want to be able to export from FigJam — without border, with original metadata. Is this too much to ask?

Ultimately the team decided to default the border, because they felt that FigJam should by default help non-savvy users create boards that feel more aesthetically pleasing. The team felt that borders make an image dropped into FigJam feel more curated and less plain.

That said, we should auto-respect your last option for image borders, meaning if you’ve turned it off once, it should save your preference. Can you please confirm whether or not that’s the case?

Thanks for the response Celine. I’m really asking about export here. I can set “transparent” as a border style for exported images, but why not a “none” option? I appreciate that I can copy as PNG, open a Figma file and export from there … but again, why enforce the work around just to achieve a basic clean image export?

The other thing we’re really missing—and the reason we’re still using Miro—is retained meta data. For context, a key use case for us is collecting and collaborating on AI-generated images and storyboards. Meta-data on images includes critical prompt info. When that’s striped out, it dramatically reduces the utility for us.
