Let us know what would make Figma better for you.

When adjusting the X/Y position of an object or the W/H attributes of that object using numerical values, Figma offers basic operators (±*/) to add/subtract/multiply/divide values quickly. As a feature extension, it would be great if Figma also supported the ability to specify the anchor point from which those operators should apply. For instance, in Sketch, it’s possible to add 8px width to an object by typing: “+8” – this extends the width by 8px to the right (using the left side as the anchor point) “+8R” – this extends the width by 8px to the left (using the [R]ight side as the anchor point) “+8C” – this extends the width by 4px on both sides (using the [C]enter as the anchor point) Likewise, in Sketch there are vertical anchor point modifiers. Typing in the height input: “+8” extends 8px from the top downwards “+8b” extends 8px from the [B]ottom upwards “+8m” extends 4px to the top and bottom, from the [M]iddle These are extremely useful shortcuts when adjusting designs – e.g., if
Consider the following scenario: My team needs to have a reusable template with a predefined layer structure so we don’t have to recreate the same file structure over and over and to keep our files consistent enough that designers, PMs and engineers know what to expect of our files regardless of the designer that worked on it. We currently use a file the team manually duplicates by doing right click>duplicate and then move to the project they will be working on, but instead of this, we would prefer to just click on create new file and select a template from the dialog that figma provides. The problem we have is that you need to publish that file to the entire Figma community to be able to do this and the security policy of our company doesn’t allow this. Should templates be public to the community by default? Can’t we just create a new template and make it available to our internal team only?
Why not let us choose the animation pattern? We already have a feature just for that, but only for things on the canvas. 🙂 what could it hurt? let us customize this one tiny detail!
On PC i want to explore figma document with only mouse, but i can’t zoom in/out without keyboard - I have to hold down the Ctrl with the other hand. On a Mac, there is no problem: gestures on the touchpad make zooming convenient. At the moment we can scroll through a document by dragging it with the left mouse button or by scrolling horizontally, but to scroll horizontally (which is also often used as vertical scrolling) you have to hold down Shift, which is rather illogical for a map-like interface. Can you add a switch like the existing “Invert Zoom Direction”? That would solve my problem. This feature was already requested in 2017: https://spectrum.chat/figma/feature-requests/zoom-with-mouse-wheel~04d1784d-827c-4363-9404-ffddc91bcfef Thanks Vlad
I had a chance to test the new file format and have a few comments. Switching between Slide view and Grid view modes is hard. The button is on the top left as the only important element there, and everything that was there before has been moved to the bottom. There is a keyboard shortcut (Shift + .), but the keys are far apart to do it with one hand. Layers are only visible in Slide view. Will it be possible to show them in Grid view as well? Layers can be hidden, but thumbnail slides unfortunately cannot. They take up a lot of space. An option for a compressed version of them would be useful. Normally, as you select something by clicking the mouse, the item is outlined in blue. When you are in Slide view mode, clicking on a slide doesn’t give any confirmation that you are now operating that slide. Only the bar on the right changes, but that’s not enough for me. In Grid view mode, clicking on a slide doesn’t do anything, you have to click above the slide to bring up the bar and be abl
After selecting a layer and pressing ‘K’ for scale, the scale-multiplier field gets selected. If we want to scale to a fixed width or height, we have to select it with the cursor. It would be faster and better if we can press ‘W’ or ‘H’ after we are in scale mode to focus the width / height field.
It would be great to be able to choose which unit of measurement to use (px, rem or mm). It would also be great to be able to switch between sRGB and CMYK profiles quickly. The creation of frames in standard mm formats should be native and the export of PDFs for printing should be improved. All this would make Figma the ultimate software.
It’d be nice to be able to search for a layers with a search bar in the layers panel instead of scrolling through a long list of layers or scan your canvas. This will make the interaction far more intuitive and time-saving for users.
Please bring in something similar to the variable data sets from Photoshop or the ‘Create links when placing text and spreadsheet files’ functionality in InDesign
Option to use nested (objects with) variables. Big need! Every tutorial about variables you watch skips using button states 🙂 Variable Window option to search (if you have a lot of variables) Scalable columns (if variable names or strings are too long) show if variable is used (good to know when you want to clean up your mess) Popup bigger Window please Being able to copy from the variables Popup to another popup (like it is already possible in the right column) Tootltip for (long)variable names
The tab favicon colors (blue, purple, orange) are grayscale when not hovered. It would be nice if we could see the colors without hovering to identify which tab is which type of Figma file.
In the previous UI I could see the new height of an auto layout layer when changing the padding. In UI3 I cannot. I would love to see the effect on the dimensions when playing with the padding.
I’ve submitted a few ideas at this point, and also found some ideas while searching that frankly feel like they should be base functionality… They didn’t get much traction with votes, and were closed after the 90 day mark. It seems REALLY hard to get suggestions actually recognized by the development team within that timeline. Not trying to stir up anything, and I know the devs have a lot going on, but… can we get it lengthened? Or have a reopen button?
I have several frames that I want to tag them as “Ready for dev”, but I have to do it in each of them individually. Is there any way?
Hey! When editing vectors, diagonal blue lines appear. I know this is intended behavior, but in some people (including me) these lines make them physically sick. As for me, I had terrible nausea after ~ 5 min of editing vectors, and my eyes still haven’t gone back to normal while writing this ( ~ 3 min later). An option to disable these lines, just like there’s an option to disable the pixel grid, would be great. Thanks.
Hello! Imagine you create a collection 1 which has 2 modes (mode x, mode y). The mode y in collection 1 is connected to collection 2 with Modes. Logically, Collection 2 is only worth to show in the appearence/layer menu when I changed my component mode to mode y. Unfortunately I see collection 2 even mode x is chosen, which doesn’t have any effect to my component when mode x is selected.
As of now smart animate take all the elements from one page to another and animates them from 0 to 100% all at the same time. Of course, multiple separate “after delay” allow to simulate asynchronous animations allowing to trigger multiple animations at a different time. This method, while being effective, is tedious and sometimes difficult to maintain since it’s a bit difficult to read those lists : Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to have a window that allows us to animate objects with a timeline. To keep it simple, only the moving elements would appear, so for example if you only animate a square and a round. They show up in the timeline and you have the possibility of deciding which moves first…
It would be great to have such an option to generate random numbers to use them later in expressions. So you could for example randomly shuffle card items, or position of element in the prototype. Another use case is generating phone numbers, avatar names or even messages from a group of ready text groups.
The idea is to stop all the connectors that are on the same side of the shapes from crumbling into each other. And it should look like this: And the control behaviour that I am imagining is like this: (Notice how it snaps to a point that is near, but not on the magnet.) I hope this has conveyed my idea 😛 Thank you for reading!
Any shortcut keys would be good approach.
In order to take responsiveness to the next level it would be great if an “On resize” interaction could be added. This interaction could “conditionally” set the “Variable mode” in order to change font size and weight when resizing a frame. Therefore it would be great to have a “system variable” available that can be used in expressions, which represents the “width” and “height” of the frame that is being resized. This way we can use the new typographic variables much more and we don’t need any additional plugins of complex setup to achieve the same level of responsiveness.
Component sets are tough to work with iteratively because you can’t undo them without losing your animation work.
It would be awesome if Figma made it possible to embed other third-party tools like Typeform, Calendly, and various scheduling tools, survey tools. I imagine that would be an easy thing to implement? Could be way off…
Workflow will be much faster if we have a filter for color library with groups created while defining variables/styles If they can be defined in groups while creating those variables why can’t we filter the list of all the colors by those groups. For example, I have one collection of base colors and then I have a design palette collection with color token defined for text, button, bg, outline, etc. I see all of them together and have to scroll to find required group or search by name. If there is a filter inside of a library to filter the list by each group of variables/styles getting to required colors will be faster and less irritating.
If a library has spacing tokens, it would be great to be able to apply those in autolayout so that I don’t have to go retroactively apply those tokens after suggest auto-layout has been applied. Figma would round to the nearest token. Even if this was incorrect, it makes it easier to go in and select the next closest token.
