Hi! Sharing some notes from a couple of rounds of accessibility testing we did on our Figma Slides newsletter back in September 2024.Issues with video functionality Screen magnification user - Video plays automatically when user navigates to slide - When media must play automatically, the user should be able to immediately stop playback with simple commands. WCAG 2.1 2.2.2: Pause, Stop, Hide Participant using Dragan Naturally could not play video on slide Issues with elements that are only disclosed on hover (left-right slide navgiation) Dragan doesn't work well with elements that are only disclosed on hover Dragan user not sure what slide they are on Overall, Dragan user recommended a different format for the newsletter since they had a number of challenges navigating
Hi,I'm currently very actively trying to incorporate variables and conditions into our project and doing a lot of cool stuff (I'm sure some of it is truly unique). However, all my ideas hit a wall because it's impossible to bind variables to specific objects only. Since the variables are global, I can't use my unique dropdowns or inputs because I can't make them as flexible and manageable as components with variants. If you could make it possible to manage variables more flexibly, it would significantly help in prototyping unconventional things. As an example of what I mean, I'd suggest taking a look at my currency dropdown and inputs fields.
Hey figma people, I have a suggestion, I don't know if anyone else has already done this. When you search for a plugin and it opens you can either save or run, if you save it directly there is no problem and it shows up in the list. But if I don't know what the plugin does and I press run then it is saved as recent and it doesn't become permanent. Then I have to search for it again, press delete and search for it and save it.I would like to have the bookmark next to the plugin like in the UI and press if I want to save or delete it.
Previously, you would hit CMD+K to insert a link. It was very easy to remember as it’s the most common. I am never going to remember Shift+CMD+U as being a link. Would rather a new keyboard shortcut was added to go to the actions menu, than repurposing one already frequently used.
It seems that only members (internals with whitelisted org-domains as mail addresses) are able to see and therefore benefit from workspaces. Which I don’t see the reason behind. As organisation admin I would somehow like to allow guests to see our workspaces aswell, as we work with a lot of external designers & developers from different agencies. We were able to observe that workspaces drastically help with navigating through our figma structure by clustering different teams based on different streams, so we would like to allow guests benefiting from that aswell.Of course this is only relevant for admins & guests of an organisation with the enterprise plan but what do you guys think of it? Am I missing something?
I’m not really looking for solutions here. As a long time user I just want to express how I have really run out of patience with all the half-baked UI redesigns of Figma. Over the last 2 years the experience of battling to find previously obvious features has become truly dreadful. Day to day use has become a massive productivity drain, and the complex integration of questionable new functionality has eroded any previous goodwill I had for the company. All I wanted to do today was to search for a plugin, and I couldn’t even find the entry point. I know i’ve found it before, but with so many changes to the UI design I couldn’t remember where. There isn’t even any mention of it in the Figma Help site. I mean, it makes sense right? Who would be interested in an existing productivity feature or actual design tool when we’ve got all the shiny AIs to promote? Thanks to an article by Harsha Vardhan N I found the tiny indistinct button in the bottom left of the Back Stage or Home view, or What
I love that Figma keeps evolving, but I wouldn’t be here if I’d love all changes ;)Recently this changed: When in the tablet-app in a prototype and want to change between flows or want to restart a prototype it takes more clicks. First I have to double touch to open a header and then I need to open submenu’s for one or the other. If I want to change the flow I have to click on some arrows pointing right.. which opens a slide-up somewhere below; I’d expect it to be on the right if the arrows point right. So it takes me a bit longer to find where to select the desired flow.Basically, I have to click more and I have to search where a menu may open. It used to work intuitive and quick, but now it changed (which takes effort to learn the new way) and I see no real win.Am I the picky one or do more people prefer the old two-finger-opens-bottom-menu-with-restart-prototype-right-there-menu?
So I am going nuts in the new UI when using the shortcut “k” for resizing objects. My muscle memory knows that “k” > tab would get me to resize using pixel increments. Now that leads me to positioning. I dont see why this order has been changed - this is one of my main quirks with the new UI apart from the floating action bar, but is another story.
Hello. My company uses Figma embeds in our design system website and this website also functions as a development environment similar to Storybook. When we are developing on our local machines, the Figma embed dumps a bunch of output to the developer console which I think is inappropriate and very distracting. Is there currently a way to disable this output? Here’s a screenshot of what I’m talking about: Looking at the logs, it appears that the Figma dev team is using an abstraction around the window.console method. If that is true, I imagine it’d be easy to support a flag that can be passed via query param on the iframe src URL to disable debug output: https://www.figma.com/embed?embed_host=share&url=ourFigmaUrl&disableConsole=1 Then in your abstraction you’d look to see if that parameter was truthy and if so skip logging (would probably want to just grab that param once and store it as a global variable or similar on page load for performance reasons). Another option is to
AI: No, thank you. Design Kits: Are Apple and Google committed to keeping these up to date? And what was wrong with Community members making these? Figma Slides I have yet to use, let alone trying to convince my non-Figma coworkers that make presentations to use Still using the old UI as UI3 frustrated me Dev Mode Pricing is still too ridiculous to recommend Auto Layout feels the same as before Config 2024I see so many upvoted suggestions on these forums that just get ignored. 2024 felt like a totally lost year for Figma.
I have local components that I want to send to a library and moving them is absolutely unreliable. I published the local file so that Figma recognizes it as a library (since the moving doesn't work otherwise), and after moving and publishing the changes the instances still broke down, I had to revert versions in both files and now the panel that should pop up whenever I try moving the components (again) just won't appear.
UI3 may look cool, compact, clean. But it slows down my work a lot. In my opinion, it is great to bring these back: First I want the Go to main component and Create instance swap back to always visible. They don’t have shortcut keys, and they are also hidden. I believe this is 2 of the most frequently used action in Figma. Second, Constraints is either frequently used, especially by who designs icons or illustrations. Seems like you discourage users from using it: Third, please tell me the reason why you changed Clip Content from a checkbox into a dropdown? I hate it when I have to spend 2 clicks to get to it. Or do you have a plan to add more options into this dropdown? Or just because you want somewhere to add icons before the label? Fourth, after dragging a component from this panel, it won’t disappear right away and stays occupying space on screen. Why should it stay?
The position of right sidebar elements changes based on what you’re editing (components have different variables) and it’s really frustrating. I want my regular actions (width, height, X pos, Y pos, border radius, etc.) to constantly be in the exact same place. In this redesign, y’all move component variables up to the top of the right sidebar. But the # of components is totally variable, sometimes I’m editing an object that has no variables. This pushes the regular modifications (size, position, etc) down to random places along the right side. It slows me down GREATLY trying to scan down the right side for where to find the width/height/border radius now. The things I interact with 100x a day should be in the same place always… so that muscle memory can access them with ~0 cognitive load.
In short, you say you appreciate feedback in the pinned topic, but when a user selects submit feedback on the help menu within the app, you are taken here. There’s no open dialogue box or form to quickly submit a comment and attach a photo. In fact, I can’t even attach a photo, which is extremely frustrating. Plus, I have to login. How is that not, for ease of user, connected to my existing app account? In regards to what I was originally submitting feedback on, I didn’t have a grand idea for a feature I wanted from Figma. I had a comment about accessibility and findability for a high-priority property, width and length of a frame. To me “submit feedback” ≠ share an idea. I wish you would make it easier to submit thoughts on UI3. TIA!
Figma is a UX product, but I have gripes with its UI, which feels like it’s gotten significantly worse over time. **1. New Left Navigation ** Recently, the way the left hand navigation works in Figma was changed. Before, I was able to see every single project in the left hand navigation. I believe that this was default behavior. Now, the only option I have to mimic this is to drag every project to “Starred”. There’s no way to add new sections. To see every project I have to go to “All Projects.” This is specific to my Professional account, but I also work on a teams enterprise account and feel that the navigation is even more confusing there. The original navigation felt akin to a basic OS folder structure. Everything was handy. The new way is fine. But please give me the option to have a long list of all projects in my left navigation. The fact that Figma forces me to use it a certain way is distasteful to me. 2. Why can’t I give anonymous feedback? I don’t like posting on forums. It’
The new update notification is highly interactive and helpful. I absolutely enjoy the notification’s user interface. A user’s profile can be made more visually appealing by adding little details like the Mention icon. Another good feature is the comment thread in the notification.
Hi everyone, I’m running a small design company and I’m working with different clients, on small projects, every month couple clients come and go so it’s a fast flow of clients. Previously, I was paying for Figma for my and my designers’ seats, and when I was sending designs to a client, his developer was just working on the file and that’s it. You all know this good old flow. Now, it suddenly appears, that because I’m the file “owner”, I need to pay for a developer’s dev mode. Once again: a designer, who made the design, now have to pay for client’s developer so he can do his job. Of course, most of my clients will be okay to pay me extra to compensate that, but in this case I’m having a brand new huge finance management issue, where I should track somehow, which project drains how much money, request that money from each client every time, if I forget to do that, I’ll face more issues. Some of clients will forget to pay, some will refuse… etc. It’s a huge new problem for me that will
I know there are many other threads talking about this issue, but I want to highlight a particular case. I’m working on a single project with a free plan. We are just two users: I’m a designer, the other user is developer. He only needs to inspect my design properly without editing, and has been using Dev Mode until now. The ONLY thing we need is keeping the Dev Mode for him. When I click on “upgrade”, we both appear as “clickable” for upgrading to two seats, but when I deselect me, it converts me directly in a “view-only” user. So if we want to remain the same but with Dev Mode for the developer, we have to pay for two seats! How the hell don’t you offer a plan for just allowing developers to inspect the design properly, without converting him in a editor and without downgrading me to only-view? Figma, did you really study this new move you made? Because I think it won’t have the consequences you want.
I wanted to offer feedback around some of the reasons our company decided to remove the Figma app from Jira. There are a few things missing or mis-matching between our use of Figma and Jira. Figma is mostly used for software UI design but our DevOps team also use Jam for flowcharts sometimes, Marketing use it for some web and email design work. Jira is also used by several teams in the company, all of the above mentioned ones + several more. This causes some issues with how the “Jira app” is structured. You can setup the app to link to 1 and just 1 team in Figma. But this links to all of Jira. Not to any one team or project in Jira. We would want 2 Figma teams linked to 3-4 Jira projects. The app is not useful in any other Jira project but we were still not able to figure out how to disable the UI added onto all Jira cards. (E.g. “Add a Design” button) In contrast, apps like the one for Slack, Checklist pro, or MS Teams are apps you configure per Jira project. I can also link a speci
Hello, two days ago, I had an issue with payment. Maybe somebody has experience with the same problem. The problem One month ago I subscribed to one payment plan of 25$ to use Figma with all things I need. And two days ago I received a message, that you should pay 172 euros at the beginning of next month. And I was shocked. I start checking what happened. And see that I have 9 editors on old projects and one month ago, I already paid 172 euros for 9 users, and next 5 days I should do the same. But real situation is that all this month only I used Figma in my projects. Figma support did great work and returned my money for the previous month. I am thankfull for it. I like Figma, and I don’t want somebody to have the same problem as me. And I would like to give clear feedback about this situation. Which maybe could help Figma company increase User Experience about payment. The reason why it happens: Because “Team folder” has a folder view for grouping projects in the folders. It is reall
