Question

"Pasted with unpublished variables" despiste source library being 100% published & updated

Leter

I’m working on a project with 2 files:

  • the Design system, containing the entire component, style and variable library
  • the Delivery file, containing the final mockups.

I draft mockups from a “Sandbox” page on the Design system as a way to save time by limiting library publications & updates. Then once it’s ready, I copy/paste the final mockups from the Design system file to the Delivery file.

Until now I had no issue. But today, I’m getting the following message:

I don’t understand why I’m getting this message. Obviously I want to keep all variables attached only to the Design system file as the single source of assets.

I’ve double-checked: the library in the Design system file was fully published and updated on the Delivery file before I copy/pasted the mockups into the latter file. I’ve done it multiple times.

The Design system file contains a few hundred variables, and if I do click “Copy variables into this file” on the banner, the confirmation message says “21 variables pasted”.

I’m getting confused with this and am concerned that my Design system libraries are getting out of sync with the Delivery files it’s supposed to feed.

Did you manage to solve the issue? I’m getting the same problem

I’m experiencing the same issue. Clicking the “Copy variables into this file” button creates a few local variables in the design file that already exist in my design library and have already been published.

Hey all - I’d like to help all of you get this reviewed and solved.

In instances like these, it’s hard for me to tell immediately what the issue is. Libraries are unique to each person using Figma, and what may be happening could be different for each of you.

I think it best to have our support team look into this. Would you all be able to do the following?

File a ticket here: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360001744374

Share edit access to the file[s] that your variables keep triggering this message on with support-share@figma.com, if you can do so. This is the official support file sharing email, and you won’t be charged for doing so. No worries if you can't share - we can still help

Include the name of the file you’ve shared within the form you fill out (this helps us locate the file easily).

Once you’ve done that, let me know. I’ll get your tickets escalated 😁
