Dev mode not showing the same variable name as design mode

Lars_de_Haan

I initially named a variable as background/buttons/primary. Later, this was changed to Cta/primary/default. I updated the variable name throughout the design environment, and the old variable name is no longer present.

However, the same component now shows a different variable name in design and development modes. When I changed the color to another value, the variable updated correctly. But when I used a variable with the same color value, it reverted to the old variable name, which no longer exists.

Could you please help me resolve this issue?

Hi there,

Based on the information from that ticket, it appears that the discrepancy in the inspect panel is not actually a mismatch, but rather how the code syntax has been defined for those variables in the variable collection.
To resolve the issue, you can either update the code syntax or remove it entirely.

We hope this information is helpful. If you still encounter the issue, I recommend submitting a bug report here: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360001744374
When submitting the report, please remember to include the following details:

  • Your Figma account email
  • Screenshots of the issue, capturing the full Figma screen with the left and right-hand panels
  • The URLs of the file and the file with the variables, add support-share@figma.com as an editor of those files(this will not affect your billing)

Thanks you!

Is there an update on this bug? I just ran into the same issue.

Is there a workaround?

That was it, thank you very much! And sorry for taking your time, I should have been aware of the code syntax field.
