Component instances with text style override resets when using property panel
After removing bold/underline styles in our design system (due to the text style override update), we’ve noticed an issue:
In a main component with a non-bold text style:
Apply bold formatting and a text property.
Create an instance.
Changing text via the property panel resets bold formatting.
However, editing text on the canvas preserves the bold weight.
Is this bug being tracked or expected?

Can someone from Figma file this bug, or please let me know if this is expected? It’s a blocker for us from removing bold text styles in our DS.
Also seeing this bug!!!
An update: I have opened a request with Figma support. They were able to reproduce the problem and have escalated it to the engineering team for further investigation. As soon as they provide an update, I will post it here.
Hi, i’m seeing the exact same issue where using the property panel to edit text in an instance removes underline.
Having the same issue, bold or underlined text losing the styling when using the property panel to edit the text, hope the team can fix this bug otherwise it looks like we’re adding more styles to the design system
Hello, here’s an update: Figma sent me a response a while ago.
Hi Demian,
Our engineering team have also confirmed that this is a bug - however I want to be transparent with you that this will not have an immediate resolution as we need more time to investigate this.
For now as a workaround, changing the weight instead via the style picker in the Design Panel, should avoid this issue:
While I can’t promise a quick fix, please know that our engineering team is aware of the issue and will work towards finding a solution in the future. We appreciate your understanding and patience in this matter.
If you have any follow up questions or want to check on progress, just reply here and the conversation will re-open so we can give you a hand.
Thanks again for your help here and for your patience while the team continues investigating.

Any fix for this yet?
Hello! I am writing to report that I have found a bug in which the used text styles are reset after binding the text property inside the component. I will describe the step-by-step initiation of the bug, using a new component as an example.
I created a new file with a component containing only text - "Link". The component variants differ in the font colors used and the underline color. For each component variant, the text underline colors are configured. The text underline is pre-configured using a separate style from the design system library.
The result is a component with 4 variants. As shown in the screenshot, each underline for the variant is different.
Example of custom underline style
After that, I create text property to use a single text when switching component variants.
Creating text property
I apply the property to the text in the component
select the new text property for each texts in component
Success
But after changing the border of one component variant, a single style from the changed variant will be applied to each of the variants.
bug
The problem gains more weight if the component has a larger number of properties: sizes, states, display types. Where each component variant is unique.
The problem was noticed after the latest application updates. Previously, there were no such problems when creating and editing a component. Thank you in advance for your answer and I am ready to provide additional material to study the problem.
