Hi, I reloaded Figma and suddenly don’t have access to any of my own files

Hey @Sara Cheikh ,
Sorry to hear you are having issue to access to your file!

This usually happens when your access of this file has been edited, or the file has been deleted.

As the first workarounds, I recommend you to:

  • Make sure you're logged into the correct account.
  • Check if you’ve accepted the invitation to view or edit the file under the right account.
  • Look in your deleted files to see if the file is there.
  • Contact the file owner to request access again.

If these workarounds still don’t help, don’t hesitate to contact directly our support team by filling out this form: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360005944714.
Please make sure you use the email associated with your Figma account, include the URL of the file in question. This will help our support team to locate the file and see what may have happened. Thank you!

I have the same problem - i can’t access my own file:

  • Make sure you're logged into the correct account.
    → did that
  • Check if you’ve accepted the invitation to view or edit the file under the right account.
→ did that, i have another account for a different company - this one does not own the file either.
  • Look in your deleted files to see if the file is there.
→ not there in both accounts
  • Contact the file owner to request access again.
→ did that, but obviously it does not help as i request access from myself. i dont get any notification either.

I would be very thankful for any help.

Hi Raimund, thanks for these details! I see you have already reached out to the support team for further investigation.
I have escalated your case internally (your support ticket number is  #1392386).
Thanks for your patience in the meantime!

Hi again @Raimund Jebens , please check your inbox when you have a moment. Great news, our support team was able to locate your file!

For visibility, it appears that your file now resides in a Shared project in the organization. When a member is removed from an organization, the files that were in their drafts are put in a 'Shared projects' area so org admins can move the project and its files into an active team. The files can't be interacted with until this takes place.

We suggest reaching out to your admin and passing along this guide – View and manage shared projects – that will show them how to move the drafts into a team that you have access to, and at that point the file ownership will be inherited by someone who already has a role on the file.

If you need further assistance, feel free to reply directly to the support team, your case will re-open automatically.
I’ve gone ahead and mark as solved the thread here. Thank you!
